Position Summary : Unit Clerk

Would like candidate to have LPN, EMT or phlebotomy licensing or certification. Assists with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Clinical Unit Clerk works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and assists where needed. Performs patient care activities within the scope of training. Other duties as listed.

Contacts medical personnel, reports / records observations, and follows directives from supervising Physician or Registered Nurse

Understands the principles of EMTALA. Follows procedures to ensure a medical screening examination is completed on all patients. Follows appropriate hospital policies for transfers.

Performs clinical duties as assigned, including crutch walking, dressing changes and assisting physician with splint or cast application. Taking vital signs and recording medical histories.

Taking phone calls, transmitting paperwork for transfers or other record requests, ordering supplies for the department, including medical and office supplies, photo copying, building charts, scheduling appointments, preparing forms, handling mail and greeting patients.

Attends and participates in department staff meetings; reads and signs all meeting minutes as acknowledgement of information received; demonstrates compliance and knowledge of new

changes within department and hospital.

Consistently supports the mission, vision and goals of the organization. Acts in a positive, proactive manner to support department and hospital efforts in the community and with co-workers.

Complies with Confidentiality / HIPAA requirements and observes patient privacy needs.

Understands Cultural / spiritual diversity issues as they relate to the job; is cognizant of patient's cultural differences and includes spiritual health as a component of patient care

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

LPN - Requires Utah State LPN License

EMT - Basic or advanced

Phlebotomy - Must be certified

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire
