What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Assurance Supervisor position at Catallia Mexican Foods?
Position Overview:
This is a hands-on position and will require that the individual leads and monitors all aspects of quality assurance within the plant.
This individual will be responsible for contributing to a consistent, safe, and productive work environment through participation in corporate programs and adhering to operation and personnel policies and procedures. With a focus on the success of the overall operation, the individual will work closely with leadership, production and the maintenance teams to handle specific issues and support ongoing operational needs.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Supervises and monitors the daily activities of multi-shift QA staff.
- Troubleshoots issues with metal detectors and X-rays including calibrations, new product set up, and being a liaison between the company and metal detectors/X-rays vendors
- Assures product safety and quality standards by enforcing company policies and regulatory requirements
- Oversees, implements, and reviews company policies and procedures related to food safety and quality assurance programs, to include but not limited to third party audits and customers’ product sampling
- Manage the following systems: raw material evaluation, holding of non-compliant raw materials or finished products and solving quality related issues with vendors
- Manages and maintains records of performance of the calibration of scales, thermometers, pH meters, and rapid moistures
- Verifies that processes and procedures are in place to ensure hygiene practices are in place to result in sanitary handling and delivery of safe, quality foods tour customers
- Complete logs and trends for foreign objects, complaints, corrective actions, and noncompliance of suppliers.
- Establishes and updates in-process product inspection standards by studying manufacturing methods; develops testing methods and procedures
- Facilitates training and documentation for all departments to ensure employees are adequately trained in company practices (GMP’s, Allergens, SQF, HACCP, and SSOP)
- Assists with sensory evaluation and finished product grading for all products manufactured by Catallia
- Coordinates laboratory testing and sampling of finished products
- Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) for reporting and continuous improvement purposes
- Trains and supervises basic analytical and microbiological testing that meet recognized standards for testing and calibration
- Issues corrective actions to eliminate root cause of non-compliance or other problematic issues
- Keeps Quality Assurance Manager informed of activities that may require his/her attention
- Ensures that facility and products meet and maintain all required company, customer, and regulatory guidelines
- Evaluates daily production samples to ensure that products meet Catallia food safety and quality standards
General Responsibilities
- Maintains an environment for continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in Food Safety and Food Defense related activities
- Perform additional duties as directed.
Education & Experience
- 2-year degree (prefer food science and quality related fields) Or 2 years experience in food manufacturing or related industry in a QA or QC role
- Experience in food safety and sanitation, data collection and analysis, SQF, HACCP, SPC, SSOP’s and SOP’s, GMP’s etc. is preferred
- Supervisory experience preferred
