Catawba County Human Resources is recruiting an experienced HR professional with outstanding communication, collaboration and analytical skills to fill a key role as an HR Consultant on our team. As an HR Consultant, you will perform professional work in the area of recruitment and selection while also supporting pay, classification and position management, training/staff development, employee relations, and other special projects as needed.
Likely hiring range is $58,841.09 to $70,000.00 dependent upon education, experience, and skills.
- Perform recruitment and selection functions for County positions, which includes:
- Developing job postings
- Ensuring that qualifications posted align with established classification specifications, including development and revisions to class specs, position descriptions, and qualifications as needed
- Talking with and assisting applicants and promoting the county as an employer of choice
- Review and qualification of applications
- Assisting departments with conducting interviews
- Monitoring and coordination of the pre-employment screening process including checking references, preparing conditional offers, and screening of applicants
- Assisting and consulting with hiring managers regarding the recruitment process
- Evaluation and recommendation of hiring salaries
- Prepare various internal and external reports
- Assist with position management
- Assist with monitoring and tracking of updates to position descriptions
- Assist with maintaining a competitive pay plan and classification system which could include conducting salary surveys, position reviews, and position and pay changes
- Assist with staff development
- Assist with employee relations tasks (i.e.: satisfaction surveys, exit interviews, etc.)
- May assist with special projects and other areas of human resources as needed
- Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field and 1 year of professional experience in Human Resources; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field and 2 years of professional experience in Human Resources

- Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external customers
- Strong analytical ability coupled with sound judgment
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (i.e.: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) as well as HRIS and recruitment systems
- This is considered light work; may lift up to 20 pounds to transport training supplies or organize files.
