Position Description
Are you seeking part-time work? Would you like to work in a helping profession, interacting with a variety of people? Do you enjoy driving and have a good driving record? Catawba County Social Services is seeking an hourly, part-time Social Services Transportation Aide I to provide safe, prompt, and courteous transportation services for Medicaid eligible clients. Transportation is provided to medical appointments within and outside the county.
This position is a part-time hourly position, with no benefits, working on an as-needed basis with an average of 19 hours per week. (Some weeks could be more, and some weeks could be less.)
Responsibilities
- Provide transportation services to medical appointments for Medicaid eligible clients
- Accurate and timely recordkeeping such as day sheets, time sheets, etc.
- Drive safely and defensively, obeying all traffic laws, representing Catawba County in a professional manner
- Keep county vehicles clean and properly maintained for safety purposes
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and the demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job
- A valid NC Class C Driver’s license with a safe driving record
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively and work well with clients, office staff, and supervisor, including interaction with clients they transport.
- Geographical knowledge of Catawba County and the ability to locate client residences and providers, in an efficient manner.
- Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule because the day of the week and time of day scheduled to work is dependent on the needs of the transportation unit.
- Strong analytical ability which enables the applicant to transport multiple clients and react to schedule changes while ensuring that clients arrive at their appointments on time.
- Physical ability to assist clients in and out of vehicles as needed; this is considered light work; lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally to transfer wheelchairs, walkers and other equipment as well as the ability to carry, pull and push up to 15 pounds.
- Effective computer skills to find a client or provider address in Google Map; access emails; complete time sheets, online training, and other reports.
- Ability to work independently while exhibiting good judgment and providing excellent customer service.
Employees working in temporary/hourly positions are not eligible for benefits.
