The Cathedral Basilica is seeking a part-time Porter, responsible for opening and closing the Cathedral, welcoming visitors, and ensuring the safety of the premises. You will also assist the priests and deacons in the celebration of the Mass, preparing the altar, reading the Scriptures/Psalms and distributing Holy Communion.
This is a position that requires flexibility, dedication, and reverence. You will be working with a team of clergy, staff, and volunteers who strive to glorify God and edify His people through their work. You will also have the opportunity to grow in your spiritual life by participating in daily Masses and spending time in prayer in a sacred place.
This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Working hours are:
Mondays 7:30 am - 1:00 pm
Wednesdays and Thursdays 6:30am - 1:00 pm
Key Responsibilities:
Safeguard Environment
Ensure a safe environment in the Cathedral, rectory, and office during normal business hours
Ensure the safety of all guests to the Cathedral
Monitor the physical environment within the Cathedral for 45 minutes of each hour
Monitor the grounds for 15 minutes every two hours unless situations dictate deviation
Maintain a pleasant, respectful, friendly, and welcoming attitude
Maintain a sacred atmosphere for prayer and reflection
Assist guests with inquiries, incidents, and accidents
Open and close the facility as needed and control access to restricted areas
Assist in the socking and cleaning of restrooms, as needed
Other tasks as assigned
Mass Serving & Sacristy
Perform standard Mass serving duties along with readings
Prepare the altar for the celebration of the Mass and return/clean items after its completion
Monitor/refill holy water fonts and maintain other sacred/religious items in the sanctuary and sacristy, including votive candles
Requirements:Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043)
Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, and conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals.
Experience with mass serving
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion certification preferred, training and commissioning may also be provided after hire
