INTENSIVE SHELTER CASE MANAGER - HOUSING/HOMELESS SERVICES

Full-time (37.5 hours/week) | $20-22/hour

The Catherine McAuley Center, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1984, is a respected non-profit organization serving people experiencing homelessness in Northeastern Pennsylvania through compassionate, comprehensive support and empowerment programs. Following the spirit of Catherine McAuley and the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy, we provide housing services, case management, and supportive programs that enable individuals and families to move from crisis toward independence and self-sufficiency.
Our comprehensive service network serves the entire community through emergency shelter services for individuals and families of all compositions, transitional housing programs, case management and housing assistance, family support services, a community food pantry, re-entry support and housing services, and additional community outreach initiatives.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Case Manager to provide intensive case management services to program participants in one of our women with children shelters. Working with up to 8 individuals or families at a time, you will support their journey toward stable, independent living.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide intensive case management services to individuals or families in the shelter.
-Review and assess shelter wait-list and inquiries
-Conduct screenings, intake, and entry for families coming into shelter
-Conduct regular room checks and ensure shelter is maintained, safe, and clean
-Provide routine oversight of building needs and improvements, submitting requests to maintenance
- Assess needs and challenges of families through case management meetings
-Develop and implement individualized service plans focusing on housing stability, life skills, self-sufficiency, and childhood development and education
- Connect clients with community resources and support services
-Develop and foster collaborative relationships with community partners and colleagues
-Assist clients with transportation to and from appointments such as doctor visits, education remediation, job searching or interviews, court hearings, etc.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all client documents, interactions, and services utilizing Google Workspace and Homeless Management Information Systems database
- Advocate for clients with landlords, service providers, and other community partners
- Participate in rotating on-call duties (approximately one week every six weeks)
- Collaborate with team members to ensure comprehensive client support
- Monitor client progress and adjust service plans as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Assist with and participate in community events sponsored by the Center
- Attend required inservice meetings, professional development and workshops, and interagency functions to support the Center's mission and enhance service delivery
- Demonstrate commitment to the Catherine McAuley Center's mission and values of compassionate service and respect for human dignity
-Assist with duties at the administrative building, located in Scranton on a limited basis and as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or related field OR equivalent combination of education, work experience, and/or lived experience with homelessness, recovery, incarceration/reentry, or other relevant life experiences
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for regular local travel
- Computer proficiency and ability to maintain electronic records
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong team connections
- Cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of Housing First principles beneficial
- Previous experience in social services or case management
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness
-Experience working with families
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel to the service area
- Capable of climbing stairs within shelter and during home visits
- Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally required
