Purpose Statement
The Royalette & Color Guard Coach position is for the purpose/s of being responsible for the Royalette dance team that performs with the CCHS Band, creating choreography for performances; instructing students in fundamentals and advanced dance technique; supervising students at all Band and Auxiliary events; planning for the program, overseeing forecasting needs; employing, maintaining, supervising, & determining replacement of gear/equipment/uniforms/outfits; and submitting a budget to the Band Boosters.
The Royalette & Color Guard Coach manages students in the Royalette & Color Guard teams both operationally and administratively. The Coach ensures routines are written, disseminated, taught and practiced to a high standard for performance. The Coach puts the safety and emotional well-being of the student first, communicates with all cooperating agencies/people, and is the primary point of contact for issues dealing with the Team.
Operations
This coach is hired and dismissed at the principal’s discretion. The coach is supervised by the band director. They must collaborate with the other band staff, including directors, instrument coaches, and other auxiliary team coaches.
Payment
Payment shall be made in the form of a stipend for the marching band season. Stipend shall be based upon previous experience. This is a part-time/seasonal position. This is not a full-time position.
Essential Functions
Organizes and conducts tryouts for the Royalettes & Color Guard and relays final decisions to Band Director, participants and administrators for the purpose of maintaining communication and building a strong team.
Instructs students in routines and techniques for the purpose of teaching and improving fundamental skills.
Coordinates with the Band Director in field drill planning.
Develops and promotes programs and opportunities for the students (e.g. summer training, clinics, camps, etc.) for the purpose of strengthening and improving the skills of students and the program.
Creates choreography for the purpose of enhancing drills while maintaining - and challenging - student abilities.
Maintains open communication with students and parents for the purpose of ensuring everybody is well-informed of the responsibilities of the students as part of the program. Keeps the Band Director informed on schedules and issues with members of the Color Guard.
Reviews schedules, procedures and develops routines for the purpose of creating an organized, unified program.
Partners with the High School Band Director for the purpose of evaluating program needs.
Provides Royalette & Color Guard participation at events (e.g. football games, pep rallies, parades and community events, etc.) for the purpose of providing support and school spirit.
Supervises students at any extra curricular events for the purpose of ensuring proper student behavior and dress in accordance with Catholic Central High School policies.
Attends a variety of supporting activities (e.g. parent orientations, recognition events, banquets, fundraising events, etc.) for the purpose of providing information regarding the program and/or recognizing participants' accomplishments.
Supervise the ordering, distribution, and collection of uniforms and equipment. Maintain an inventory of spare/not used uniforms and equipment.
Develops a plan of action for fundraising and budgeting for the purpose of maintaining and balancing activity accounts in coordination with the Band Boosters.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the Band and Auxiliary Teams.

SKILLS are required to perform single tasks using existing skills. Specific skills-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; applying pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; coordinating activities with other schools, districts and/or agencies; facilitating program goals; organizing and communicating information and concepts; and overseeing financial transactions.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: equipment used in activity/program; pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; and relevant professional standards and practices.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Availability is required for all Full Band rehearsals, Band Camp and performances.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires sitting, walking, standing and dancing. This job is performed in the cold, summer heat, dust, and potentially rain.
Experience: Job related experience is essential. Equivalency: WGI, DCI, College Marching Band, Dance Instructor etc.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. College degree in any field is preferred.
Required Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background and Diocesan Child Protection Training completion before working with students begins.
Dates needed preseason:
- The Month of June at your discretion to teach routines to the students.
- Mini Camps - July 7-11, July 14-18
- Band Camp - July 20-25
Dates Required During Season:
- Jul 28 - Dec. 10: These dates are Rehearsals, Football Games, Band Gigs/Performances and Parades
