PURPOSE OF POSITION:
A Housing Navigator at Catholic Charities:
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Participant Success to uphold and implement program vision, goals, oversight, and community relationships to support WES shelter participants journey towards housing, employment, and financial stability.
- Utilize motivational interviewing to perform comprehensive intakes, assessments (Needs, VI-SPDAT, Housing Readiness, Employment Readiness, and others), case planning, and discharge planning with shelter participants regularly.
- Ensure shelter participants enrollment and accuracy within Catholic Charities’ databases and tools to track outreach, engagement, and successes.
- Ensure shelter participants enrollment and accuracy within Denver’s Coordinated Entry System (OneHome and Colorado’s Homeless Management Information System (CO HMIS).
- Motivate and support shelter participants to move within the Housing Continuum of Care from low-barrier emergency shelter to a more permanent and stable outcome.
- Assists shelter participants with applications for public assistance programs (e.g., Medicaid/Medicare, SSDI/SSI, SNAP, AND, and other programs) and determines appropriate services/programs to meet the needs of shelter participants by conducting eligibility interviews, researching, and evaluating all necessary information such as family members and relationships, financial status, income, and resources.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience within a low-barrier shelter and/or programs in a trauma informed Agency.
- Experience working with people in crisis and to remain calm in stressful and/or emergency situations.
- Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the population.
- Ability to understand the challenges faced by special need populations in the community.
- Possess and have a willingness to expand knowledge of community support services and financial programs, leveraging opportunities for participants.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Attended some college working towards an associate or bachelor’s degree (BA/BS); and 3 to 6 months of related experience and/or training; or 1 to 3 years of experience determining eligibility for a variety of public assistance programs.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary: $22.00/hr. Full Time.
Schedule: Dependent on position, Our Women's Emergency Shelters are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Training: We provide a robust training curriculum that will support our employees throughout their career. Training provided within the first year of employment includes: De-escalation & Safety; Public Speaking; Mental Health First Aid; Substance Abuse & Mental Health; Human Trafficking; Trauma Informed Care; and many more.
