JOB SUMMARY: The Catholic Charities’ North Star Youth Partnership SRAE (Sexual Risk Avoidance Education) Program helps students learn about healthy relationships; goal setting; decision making; setting boundaries; sexually transmitted diseases; teen pregnancy; risks of non-marital sexual activity, and avoidance of risk-taking behaviors including drugs and alcohol. The Health Educator position is responsible for teaching the curricula to teens in middle and high school via public, private, and charter schools. All curricula is medically accurate and age-appropriate to empower teens to make healthy choices and improve life outcomes. Working remotely is allowed when not in the classroom.
The SRAE program provides medically accurate information for positive youth development to students grades 6 through 12. The curriculum is evidence-based, non-stigmatizing, and approved by the Casa Grande Union High School District School Board, the AZ Dept of Health Services, and the Dept of Health and Human Services. All students are required to gain parent/guardian permission and the curriculum is encouraged to be reviewed by parents/guardians prior to the beginning of classes. SRAE goes beyond basic sex education and empowers students through discussions about healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, setting boundaries, self-esteem, goal setting, decision-making, and avoiding other risk-taking behaviors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provides group presentations in a classroom setting using appropriate medically accurate sexual risk avoidance education curricula to teens in schools and, on occasion, community organizations in the county.
- Markets the program to appropriate clients and other recipients of service.
- Responsible for implementation and coordination of multiple program components with supervisor’s oversight.
- Collects required data via attendance sheets for program, agency, and contract requirements for input into agency, state, and federal databases. Collects pre and post surveys and submit as required by contracts.
- Maintains all documentation required by agency, funding source or other entity, ensuring documents are accurate, up to date and reflect status of program.
- Represents the agency and the program in the community; provides information regarding the program to other agency staff, other agencies, and community groups; seeks membership in relevant coalitions, committees, etc.
- Recruit and embrace working with volunteers to assist with program delivery.
- Promote ongoing commitment to excellence and continual quality improvement to ensure the highest quality of services to our staff and clients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Education /Background: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent with at least four (4) years of experience in education, health services, social services or previous work with youth. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
- Job Knowledge: Experience working with youth in organized programs, excellent communication (written and verbal) skills. Must have skills making professional presentations, classroom management, and maintaining completed and accurate records. Must be able to meet deadlines and prioritize activities. Must recognize and respect the uniqueness, values and identity of youth, parents and community partners.
- Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps. Must be able to visually and auditory assess and interact with clients to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Requires work outside of the office and driving. May lift up to 30 pounds.
- Other requirements:
- Valid AZ driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to show proof of registration/insurance.
- Level One Fingerprint clearance or ability to obtain fingerprint clearance; must maintain clearance.
- You must be 21 years of age or older to drive on behalf of Catholic Charities.
Hourly rate starting at $16.11 and may increase depending on experience.
