What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Educator position at Gila River Health Care?
Position Summary : Develops, implements and continually improves all school health education programs to successfully address health needs of students by performing the following duties personally. Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis.
Critical Tasks :
- Maintains exclusive focus upon students served, the quality of their lives, their healthy childhood development and their life quality without significant distraction by administrative and non-student focused activities.
- Complies fully with all student records and information privacy regulations, state and federal.
- Takes all steps necessary to fully ensure student data confidentiality and security by all department staff.
- Complies fully with all child welfare duty-to-report regulations without regard to any attempts by others to not take such statutorily required reporting actions.
- Provides health education to students according to established treatment / educational plans with approved curricula.
- Designs differing health education programs targeted toward differing student ages, focused upon key health education and improvement subjects.
- Presents educational classes to school staff on infection prevention and other health and safety topics.
- Remains continually updated on best practices and methods to improving student health while embracing new and proven instructional methodologies.
- Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other health care providers within the Gila River Healthcare and outside agencies to ensure timely communication of issues / concerns and coordination of care.
- Develops and prepares educational materials utilizing childhood instructional design best practices.
- Collaborates closely with Tribal, Indian Health Service, state and federal agency program representatives to promote and coordinate health education services
- Conducts student and parent surveys and collaborates with other health specialists and community groups to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and provide successful health education programs to students, generally in classroom groups.
- Serves as a highly effective link between students, families, school nurses, medical providers, community services agencies and governmental health authorities on multiple student health subjects.
- Performs MIDAS data entry and maintains completely accurate student health information on a timely basis
- Develops and maintains cooperation between community, civic, professional, and voluntary groups and agencies.
- Continually assesses the effectiveness of all student health education programs provided as well as instructional methods to continually improve student health outcomes.
- Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials in formats embraced by students.
- Maintains exceptional dependability regarding scheduled programs and activities.
- Ensures that all school health education program materials are highly relevant and useful to student health and life quality and makes improvements as indicated necessary by current circumstances.
- Participates in health screenings in all schools.
- Sets up and staffs health education booths in schools and within the community.
- Promotes beneficial health discussions in schools and in the community.
- Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.
- Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
