The Major Gifts Manager, reports to the Senior Director, Development and Events and is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual major donors & prospects who have given $1,000 - $4,999. The position requires strategic thinking and donor management to develop a specific plan through which a potential donor can be moved from financial prospect to major gift. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required including written, verbal, and personal contact with individual donors. The Major Gifts Manager will also grow the donor database by identifying and developing major new donors. In addition, the Major Gifts Manager will develop a consistent, long-term, close relationship with donors - properly thanking each donor for his/her gifts and informing the donor of the Agency’s activities and uses of the donor’s gifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Oversee and manage a portfolio of 500-700 donors, drawn from a mix of current donors of $1,000 - $5,000 or more, pipeline donors and new prospects who have been qualified by the Development Department.
- Create individual goals and plan for top 100 donors in portfolio based on the donor’s history of giving and the organization’s knowledge of that donor’s potential.
- Engage in face-to-face solicitation of major gifts, and partner with senior and program staff and/or the Agency Relations department on donor engagement opportunities.
- Draft cases for support for specific funding opportunities for individual donors. Coordinate with program staff, Institutional funding team and senior leadership to identify appropriate funding needs and projects.
- Create a plan for each donor/prospect in the portfolio and execute that plan to ensure individual donors are retained and upgraded.
- Provide support to Senior staff in preparation for solicitations, including developing appropriate briefing materials in advance of meetings.
- Develop and execute cultivation and stewardship opportunities for donors and prospects in the portfolio and participate in donor-focused events and departmental fund-raising events.
- Track portfolio activity, actions and progress in the Raisers Edge donor database. Create and run reports as required by management that accurately reflect portfolio activity and performance.
- Satisfy gift stewardship needs.
- Schedule and execute two to three cultivation events annually for Cardinal’s Committee for Charity members and oversee all cultivation events at the Cardinal’s residence for major donors and prospects.
- In collaboration with Development Operations, manage acknowledgement process for major gift portfolio.
- Assist with the development and production of communications tools, proposals and metric reports; provide support with scheduling and general correspondence.
- Under the leadership of the Senior Director, oversee all logistical aspects of the Wall Street Breakfast, a stewardship event for donors and prospects.
- Attend required meetings and events.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the mission, goals, and priorities of the Catholic Charities and develop working relationships with program staff.
- Other tasks and responsibilities depending on the specific needs of the department.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday - Friday. Additional evening and weekend hours will be required, as well as travel. Hybrid work schedule with three days in office weekly.

- Travel at least 25% of the time using public transportation or vehicle, traverse city streets, occasionally ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Remain stationary using a computer at least 30% of the time, in meetings and/or events.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment i.e. copier, fax, scanner, postage machine and printer
- Ability to use and respond to phone calls.
- Ability to lift, transport, move and store document files.
Salary range: $90,000.00 to $110,000.00
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least three-to-five years’ fundraising experience and/or comparable experience in managing a portfolio of donors and/or clients in a non-profit or corporate setting.
- Proven ability to create a climate of confidence and trust on the part of donors.
- Proficiency in computer skills including use of Microsoft Office.
- Established track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and maintaining major gifts.
- Self-Starter. High energy personality with ability to identify and develop new donors.
- Superior relationship management skills.
- Able to build strong professional relationships with donors and their advisors.
- Proven ability to work well with teams in complex situations and to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, CRM software.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-honed interpersonal skills; ability to interact comfortably with individuals at all levels.

Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
