We are looking for a Vice President of Philanthropy who will use their gifts and talents to help better the world through philanthropic efforts to support the community's most vulnerable with solutions that permanently improve lives.
SUMMARY : As an Executive team member, the Vice President of Philanthropy will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), other executives and program leaders to develop and execute strategic fundraising efforts to help serve the community’s most vulnerable. Responsible for leading the philanthropy team operations through a healthy and smart culture. Responsible for setting and executing strategic goals. Position oversees all aspects of the philanthropy department, including major gifts, corporate and foundational giving, annual and tax credit giving, planned and legacy giving, parish and community engagement, volunteerism, marketing and communications and special events. Determines metrics and evaluates results to ensure the departmental goals are achieved by providing servant leadership, day-to-day management, vision, and inspiration.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES :
- Thoroughly understands Catholic Charities Community Services (CCCS), its mission and policies, culture, values, history, Catholic Social Teachings, programs and finances, and the role the organization plays in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix and the larger Arizona community.
- Using a donor centric or relationship-based model, promote a "culture of philanthropy" that permeates the Board, Executive Team and all staff levels within the organization.
- Develops and implements a written plan for maximizing philanthropic support to CCCS by analyzing, identifying, educating, cultivating, and soliciting individual and organizational donors, and creating opportunities for investment and engagement.
- Ensure efforts to increase revenues through individual, corporate, foundation / grant funding, and planned giving are being carried out by appropriate staff.
- Identify and implement new revenue streams and fundraising methods.
- Ensures that the agency's philanthropy goals are consistent with and support the organization's strategic plan and are executed in a timely fashion.
- Develops and oversees the Philanthropy Team’s budget and participates in the organization’s budget review process, working with Program Leadership to set, meet, and adjust goals / targets, as needed.
- Provides strategic focus and tactical direction in the engagement of Staff and Board in fundraising activities through systems, processes, and leadership.
- Ensures that all annual fundraising goals are met; oversee support to maximize efficiency, maintain fundraising schedules, and streamline internal systems when and where appropriate.
- Support and work with the leadership team and CEO on cultivation and solicitation visits; and work in partnership on developing and implementing a comprehensive major gifts strategy.
- Oversees management and growth of major gifts and planned giving programs, increasing revenue targets each year.
- Lead the moves management system to track and advance current major donors and prospects.
- Develops a donor stewardship program and ensures relationships are maintained and grown.
- Manage, in partnership with team, meaningful and effective customized collateral and messaging for individual major donors and prospects.
- Trains, motivates and supports Board, Staff, and Volunteers, engaging constituents and stakeholders in development activities where necessary.
- Stays abreast of philanthropic, economic, social, and community trends as they relate to CCCS and ensure that Staff and Board are informed of changes in trends and initiatives that might impact the organization.
- Engages in continued professional development to secure knowledge and skills in all areas of development including : major gifts, mid-level giving, portfolio management, predictive analytics, direct mail, events, deferred giving, annual giving, legacy giving / planned gifts, and capital campaigns; attends relevant fundraising-related conferences and seminars to hone skills and identify best-practices.
- Works to develop, build, and expand a strong, diversified fundraising program which includes : major gifts, annual and planned giving, individual, corporate and foundation giving, capital campaigns, and special events.
- Plans and oversees gift (cash and in-kind) acknowledgment procedures with donors within donor database.
- In partnership with Annual Fund Leader, provides strategic oversight of the annual fund program, including direct mail; oversees the Bishop's Charity and Development Appeal (CDA).
- Maintains vigilance in defining (as necessary), promoting, and protecting the Catholic Charities brand, and ensures its proper and consistent internal and external implementation. Seeks out opportunities in the Diocese of Phoenix, local Arizona communities, and within Catholic Charities USA to increase brand-awareness.
- Oversees agency print and digital materials, crisis communications, and public relations materials to enhance agency image and promote fundraising.; in partnership with Marketing Leader, develops and executes a marketing strategy to create a compelling and consistent message for Catholic Charities when soliciting donors.
- In collaboration with the Marketing Leader, devise and implement various campaigns that will support Catholic Charities’ strategic plan.
- Provides operational oversight for Parish and Community Engagement (PCE), including an approach for developing Parish Social Ministry and collaboration with all CCCS programs to create effective and strategic engagement within parishes and community organizations incorporating both volunteer opportunities as well as client participation.
- In cooperation with Volunteer Services Leader, oversees Volunteer Department outcomes, providing strategic direction.
- Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions, including finance and budgetary responsibilities, information systems integration, HR / grievance / complaint resolution.
- Supervises and manages assigned staff in accordance with agency personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participate in the process of ongoing personal and professional development.
- Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts and stakeholders (internal and external).
- Develop and promote a healthy culture and team dynamics throughout department. Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with agency philosophy.
- Works in partnership with the Finance Department to ensure proper recording of all fund development activities, IRS, and regulatory compliance.
- The Vice President of Philanthropy understands and complies with all gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals.
