Overview
The Catholic Charities Children's Center (formerly AFCAAM) was founded in 1988 recruiting students in grades K-5 from the Dunbar and Harlem Heights communities in need of academic assistance, youth mentoring, and support to its children and families. We are currently looking for a friendly and competent case manager to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for supervising students, preparing lesson material, and maintaining classroom tidiness as well as assessing other needs of the enrolled children.
The successful candidate must enjoy working with children and be devoted to building a nurturing and safe learning environment. To excel in this role, you must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as in-depth knowledge of classroom activities and teaching methods.
Job Responsibilities
- Work with the lead teacher to monitor the class schedule.
- Assist teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment.
- Document student progress and communicate with parents to keep them informed.
- Help lead teachers to create lesson plans.
- Help plan and execute after-school and summer activities.
- To comply with all contractual obligations and requirements. To complete all written reports and daily documentation as assigned, punctually and thoroughly.
- To comply with agency continuous quality improvement policies and COA guidelines.
- To communicate successes and concerns with supervisors.
- To learn and adhere to all Catholic Charities personnel policies and regional procedures.
- To participate in all required program and in-service training.
- Knowledge of geographic area to travel, primarily for the purposes of promoting the program.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- To follow strict confidentiality standards with respect to agency and client information in accordance with agency policy and in compliance with provisions of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- The ability to travel to local area schools and conduct outreach to increase enrollment in the program
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree and service experience in the education field.
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
- Possess knowledge of community coordination and outreach; ability to collaborate with agencies and work with volunteers.
- Ability to collaborate with other team members across the organization.
- Ability to work independently, without supervision.
- Ability to look out for the safety needs of a group of children while indoors or outdoors, on-site or off-site.
- Computer Skills: Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office Suite, email and internet applications.
- Language Skills: A) the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, B) the ability to write quality reports and correspondence.
- Reasoning Ability: A) the ability to model common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. B) the ability to plan and prioritize tasks, as well as to communicate important information to the supervisor.
- The ability to work evening hours, beyond 5:00pm.
- Ability to work with a diverse population in regard to ethnicity and age groups.
