JOB SUMMARY : Performs caseworker duties and outreach activities for clients served by the Immigration Department.
JOB DUTIES :
- Conducts initial screening and basic intake forms with clients, informing them of services provided by department.
- Interviews and secures all appropriate information and records to complete necessary forms for persons requesting immigration counseling; prepares case files for continued follow up; maintains contact with clients to keep records up-to-date; requests documents for clients when necessary.
- Guides cases through phases of immigration procedures, submitting forms on a timely basis, making contact with US Consulate abroad, assisting clients with naturalization or derivative citizenship when eligible; informs interested parties of any changes in status or address of clients.
- Prepares cases for visa appointments, responsible for ensuring all documentation for visa appointment is available for supervisor’s review. Records number of visa appointments and successful visa applications processed.
- Responsible for informing clients of fees, explaining fee schedule and processing fees charged by the office.
- Responsible for the maintaining and upkeep of all records required by immigration program; maintains statistical data and produces reports as assigned or needed. Answers correspondence promptly and professionally and maintains progress sheets on client cases.
- Works closely with appropriate agencies and maintains active roster of community services related to immigration. Makes referrals to other programs as appropriate.
- Fulfills responsibility for the enhancement of the Immigration Program for service to low-income immigrant population by : conducting immigration workshops and outreach, recruiting volunteers through parishes, civic groups and media publicity.
- Provides outreach to the community as needed throughout agency service areas. Contacts and communicates with parishes, schools, community centers to educate them about the Immigration process and what services Catholic Charities has to offer. Coordinates and conducts seminars to provide information about Immigration services.
- Provides general clerical and receptionist duties for office; answering phones, greeting visitors, relaying information in a manner consistent with agency practices.
- Promote ongoing commitment to excellence and continual quality improvement to ensure the highest quality of services to our staff and clients.
- Works towards being accredited to practice immigration law by the Board of Immigration Appeals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
