Peer Specialist – Level 2
GRADE 6 FLSA (Non-Exempt) - $15.45-$17.39/hr.
I. QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
1. High school diploma or GED
2. Direct personal experience as a recipient of Mental Health Services
Skills
1. Ability to be assertive on behalf of individuals
2. Good oral and communication skills
3. Ability to use negotiating and mediation techniques to resolve issues
4. Able to represent a broad variety of individuals views in order to advocate on behalf of individuals
5. Familiar with computers
6. Ability to work in groups of consumers in planning activities and operations
7. Ability to establish positive rapport with peers
8. The ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach and lift items weighing 40 lbs.
9. Ability to legally operate a vehicle in NY State
II. RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor
III. MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
1. Support individuals participation in planning and/or delivery of mental health services
2. Provide information to providers regarding mental health support needs
3. Act as liaison to the CNYRO Recipient Affairs Specialist
4. Be available to assist in resolving service complaints and assist individuals in using existing grievance/complaint mechanisms
5. Be able to assist individuals who require advocacy in developing appropriate discharge and treatment plans
6. Assist with the day to day program operations
7. Assist individuals in decision and planning for activities
8. Provide training to individuals in relation to individual rights and community self-help/natural network resources
9. Participate in training to develop advocacy and negotiating skills
10. Represent individuals in providing formal testimony regarding program/policy impact
11. Assist community mental health agency’s in desiring to improve consumer satisfaction with services
12. Participate in all required training
13. Represent the Agency and program in the community and with other service providers
14. Regular and substantial contact with individuals receiving support
15. Perform other related tasks as directed by supervisor
