Overview
Position is responsible for managing the organization's Accounting Department employees and contracted personnel, collectively "Accounting Department" staff. Supervises staff's assigned functions by reviewing their work for accuracy, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States of America, the United States Federal Acquisition Regulations and other contractual requirements. The position ensures that the Accounting Department staff's work follows a predetermined timeline. This position supports Accounting Department staff by providing them with guidance, training, and oversight.
The position is responsible for maintaining all Accounting Department systems, which includes assurance that internal controls are maintained and working as designed and policies and procedures are followed by all Accounting Department staff.
The position is responsible for managing all organizational financial audits. This includes the annual independent Financial Statement audit, Single Audit under Uniform Guidance, and audits requested by funding sources.
The position is responsible for the overall preparation of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States of America.
The position is responsible for the development of the organization's annual budgets by working with Leadership Team members and other leaders. The position will also be responsible for importing the approved budget into the organization's accounting system.
The position serves as the primary liaison between the Accounting Department and all of the organization's programs and corporate departments.
May perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions
- Manage Accounting Department staff including hiring/firing, scheduling, timecard approval, approval of vacation and sick time off requests, performance evaluation, coaching, motivating, conflict management, and disciplinary action.
- Supervise Accounting Department staff and contracted personnel, including assigning tasks, reviewing their work, and setting timelines.
- Prepare training programs and/or train Accounting Department staff.
- Ascertain all accounting information is recorded accurately, timely, and in accordance with the organization's policy & procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and funding source guidelines.
- Assure the general ledger is reviewed and balanced monthly.
- Provide backup to Accounting Department staff as needed.
- Conduct financial analysis as required.
- Prepare audit schedules and coordinate auditors' field work with Accounting Department staff.
- Plan, supervise, and execute the annual budget development process and reporting.
- Manage Accounting Department's customer service and support for the organization's Development, IT, HR, COO, CEO, and all Agencies and programs.
- Prepare special reports and assist with other special projects, as required.
- May drive personal or agency vehicle on company business.

- Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Accounting.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential.
- Minimum of 5 years responsible and comprehensive accounting, auditing, and budgeting experience in high-volume accounting office.
- 3 years supervisory experience.
- Advanced skill with Excel spreadsheets.
- Experience with Accounting Software, wide-area networks.
- Expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Strong communication skills - oral, and written are clear, concise, and in an organized fashion using appropriate style, grammar, and tone.
- Extensive knowledge of financial statements (preparation and analysis).
- Proven record of excellent customer service and teamwork.
- Ability to explain complex accounting principles to individuals without accounting background.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver license, proof of insurance, and 39-month motor vehicle report.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and FBI National Criminal Records History Report (employer paid).
- Pass pre-employment drug screen (incudes marijuana, regardless of recreational use laws) (employer paid).
- Nonprofit accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Single Audit compliance experience.
- Additional years of supervisory experience.
