The Mental Health Clinical Supervisor oversees the Catholic Charities’ Counseling program, providing direct client therapy and supervision of Mental Health Therapists and administrative staff. This position combines clinical leadership, program development, and direct client care in alignment with the organization's mission and values. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Clinical Supervisor drives the Counseling program by integrating faith-based principles into therapeutic services while maintaining high clinical standards. The Counseling program serves the communities of the Diocese of Des Moines, both in-person and remotely through tele-health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive counseling program that serves the diverse needs of individuals, couples, and families.
  • Recruit, train, coach, and supervise a team of licensed therapists, interns, and administrative staff, ensuring adherence to ethical standards and best practices.
  • Develop productivity benchmarks to optimize the team’s billable activities, ensuring sustainable financial outcomes for the program.
  • Dedicate a portion of work hours to providing direct mental health services, including individual, couple, and/or family counseling.
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures to ensure ethical, high-quality care.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to client needs, integrating faith-based principles as appropriate.
  • Monitor program outcomes and recommend improvements to meet community needs effectively.
  • Collaborate with leadership to secure funding, resources, and partnerships to support program growth.
  • Stay informed about advancements in mental health care, providing training and education for the team.
  • Perform all necessary record keeping and reporting functions as required utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. Maintain integrity of client records, reports, and other documentation through adherence to administrative rules, regulatory standards, and best practice. Ensure data quality for efficient, accurate, and timely processing of claims.
  • Recommend and implement technologies to enhance care and tele-health delivery.
  • Represent the organization at community events, promoting mental health awareness and the counseling program. Build and maintain partnerships with other community organizations, faith leaders, and stakeholders. Serve as a resource for mental health education within the organization and broader community. Support and demonstrate practices and achievement of counseling goals as part of United Way’s community investment program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
  • Active Iowa state licensure (LISW, LMHC, LMFT) in good standing
  • Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) Iowa licensure, or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-independent licensure experience
  • 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred
  • Proficiency in clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health record systems
  • Advanced knowledge of counseling administration, including billing, credentialing, technologies, and documentation standards
  • Ability to inspire and support a team with a clear vision that aligns with the organization’s mission and values
  • Demonstrates compassion and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong understanding of integrating faith-based principles in therapeutic practices
  • Certification in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, or other relevant specialties
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Additional Expectations

  • Maintain professional development by continuing study of trauma informed practices, evidence-based practices (e.g. cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing) and other practices like Bowen Family Systems Theory and Therapy, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, and others.
  • Some travel may be required. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully pass Motor Vehicle Record check. Must provide own transportation, meeting auto insurance coverage requirements, with mileage reimbursement provided.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background screening, including Child and Dependent Adult Abuse registry check is required. Compliance with Safe Environment training and monthly bulletins.
  • Must maintain absolute confidentiality of information, written or verbal, according to policy and legal requirements.
  • Attend staff meetings, community meetings, approved seminars, agency trainings/retreats, and professional conferences.
  • Possess a strong commitment to the mission of Catholic Charities including the understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and ability to demonstrate the philosophy and values of the agency. Employees are expected to support the Catholic Social Teaching principles in public forum. Fulfillment of the employee’s job responsibilities should be consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
