Founded in 1947 by Monsignor William Newton, Elyria Catholic High School has been shaping the next generation of saints and leaders for over 75 years. Essential Job Functions:
- Assist students within the general education classroom with daily schedules, learning, transitions, expected behavior, and social interactions.
- Support students’ independence, self-advocacy, self-control, and self-reliance.
- Support students in their use of self-assessment, problem-solving, and other cognitive strategies.
- Track and record student progress on approved academic and/or behavioral interventions.
- Apply specified reinforcement strategies throughout the day as needed.
- Assist in structured group activities within general education classrooms.
- Follow and implement written instructional plans, seeking clarification and training as needed.
- Identify, assess, troubleshoot, and communicate relevant information about academic/behavioral reinforcements and/or environmental considerations.
- Support students by modeling and facilitating the use of conflict resolution and collaborative problem-solving.
- Support the implementation of executive functioning, social-emotional, and behavioral interventions.
- Create materials that may enhance or aid the students in learning.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and to best practices in Catholic education.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive, or Related Field (Master’s preferred)
- Energy and enthusiasm for working with and developing students for success in high
- school and beyond
- Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education
- Successful BCI and FBI background checks and VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.
