General Summary of the Position
.
St. Mark Catholic Church is seeking a passionate and capable individual to coordinate our Middle School and High School Youth Ministry Program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
- To work closely with the Pastor, Director of Youth Ministry, Youth Ministry Department Staff, and the entire Youth Ministry Core Volunteer staff in the development and execution of the vision and mission of St. Mark Youth Ministry.
- To implement and oversee new initiatives which enable teens to personally encounter Christ.
- To work alongside the Director in developing, planning, executing, and leading middle school and high school ministry programs that runs concurrently with the County and Church’s school year. The programs should each entail (approximately) at least one weekly event, bi-annual retreats, potential mission trips, and supplemental weekend programs.
- To host summer events catering to youth that invigorate their faith and foster fellowship (e.g. bible studies, service opportunities, open youth center, game nights).
- To assist coordinating and leading programming for the middle and high school students in formation as well as help plan and implement the overall program.
- Assist Director and Core Team in planning and implementing youth ministry nights. This includes coordinating and attending planning meetings, practices, and set up.
- To be a communicator between program and presenters/core team/parents/volunteer teams.
- Recruit, lead, evaluate, and provide training for all middle and high school group leaders and teen helpers.
- Advertise and promote upcoming middle & high school youth group nights, retreats, and events by every means available such as posters, flyers, website, bulletin, social media, etc.
- Youth Ministry Coordinator position includes but is not limited to the formation of teen volunteers, retreats, youth group, summer trips (e.g. Steubenville Lone Star), and discipleship groups.
- Assist in ongoing formation for Core Team Volunteers through Bible studies, prayer, and spiritual learning.
- Able to complete set-up of ministry environment; involving movement/placement of tables, and stacks of chairs.
- Other responsibilities and tasks as deemed necessary by the Pastor.
Administrative
- Assist in coordinating calendar year to include Middle and High School retreats, parent meetings, youth activity, etc.
- Assist in planning periodic catechist and/or volunteer appreciation dinners
- Assist in implementing all diocesan, parish administrative policies as directed or as written in policy handbooks
- Collaborate with the other Youth Ministry Department staff as well as parish staff with registration, accounting, publications, records, curriculum and volunteer utilization
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church professing and living all that the Church teaches whether revealed in Holy Scripture, by Divine Revelation or definitively set forth by the Magisterium, especially in matters of doctrine, morality, and personal conduct.
- Willing and able to follow all the employee guidelines as set forth by the Diocesan Office for all Church employees with the understanding that failure to follow these may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
- Dedicated to their vocation (or discernment of vocation) as their first priority.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required. Experience in ministry preferred
- Committed to intentionally seeking holiness for themselves and growing as an intentional disciple of Jesus Christ through daily prayer.
- Passionate about the mission of St. Mark Youth Ministry. To lead youth into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.
- Be an example for teens and families by attending Mass and participating in the Catholic Sacraments on a regular basis at St. Mark Catholic Church.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, computer skills, and a strong understanding and ability to articulate Catholic Teaching and catechetical method.
- Capable of learning specific computer programs, up-to-date on social media networking.
- Musical background helpful to lead praise and worship, but not require.
- Proficiency in Spanish preferred, but not required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work flexible hours, multiple evenings, occasional trips
- Work most Sundays and Wednesday evenings.
