St. Mary Parish in Pinckney is now accepting resumes for a full-time Director of Faith Formation.
General Summary: This person is a disciple of Jesus who helps to organize, accompany, evangelize, and teach people in their faith and relationship with God. The mission of our parish is to bring Jesus to the center of the life of ever)' person. This position does so by offering and teaching dynamic catechesis for the entire family, family centered sacramental preparation, as well as opportunities to encounter Jesus Christ and the transformation that His healing presence and Sacraments bring.
MANAGERIAL
- Being available, check in on, meet with, collaborate, oversee and manage those serving for: OCIA, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and youth group.
- Manage and oversee all volunteers under you, particularly: catechists, CGS catechists for the school, prayer ministers for inner healing, and any volunteers for formation (Rescue Project, retreats, etc).
BUDGETS
- Create the overall budget for the Faith Formation department. Create and collaborate with OCIA youth group, and any other department under you for their yearly budgets.
FAMILY CATECHESIS
- Be available to families
- Accompany parents in their faith and meet with them to help them as well as address concerns
- Develop, oversee, organize, schedule, teach, and evaluate Family Catechesis and Sacramental preparation (with focus on family for sacramental preparation)
- Recruit qualified and certified catechists and other volunteers to teach
- Offer formation opportunities for catechists
- Attend regional and diocesan meetings, conventions, and workshops concerning religious education. Engage in personal faith formation opportunities.
- Serve as a resource on catechetical matters such as current trends, instructional materials, and in the development of policies.
SCHOOL
- Have relationships with the staff
- Openness to assisting with faith matters, especially for sacramental preparation
- Oversee Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for the school.
- Assist as needed with Sacramental preparation (First Communion and First Reconciliation)
- Accompany parents from the school and parish in their faith. Meet with parents from the school to help and address concerns related to Sacramental prep
ADULT FAITH FORMATION
- Provide at least 2 Encounter opportunities for people to know and love Christ
- Oversee and provide encounter and follow up opportunities for inner healing. Including but not limited to: Healing the Whole Person retreats (we own the contents), inner healing prayer ministry, and collaborating with the JP II Inner Healing Center for formation opportunities such as I Am prayer ministry training
- Offer parish wide opportunities such as: The Rescue Project, bible studies, summer series. Parish missions, etc
- Collaborate with the pastor to set long range goals for the formation of the parish as a whole
OTHER
- Assist seminarians/transitional Deacons in summer tasks as needed
- Serve as a backup for Virtus training
- Provide expense reports for all purchases made
- Continue to advance God's kingdom
The pastor will review performance annually in terms of success of the program and fulfillment of the duties stated herein. This evaluation is to be presented to the Diocesan Director of Catechesis through a formal written statement in accordance with Diocesan Policy #4117.1. In consultation with the Diocesan Director of Catechesis, the director will organize and coordinate a periodic review of the entire parish faith formation effort for adults, youth, and children.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in theology or a related educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning.
Experience: Minimum of two years of experience as a catechist or involvement in other parish ministry required. Must have stayed current on trends in catechetical ministry.
Require: Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and fully committed Catholic moral teachings and tradition. Must pass a background check and attend training for the protection of children and youth.
Physical Demands: While performing duties, employee has to sit for long periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, and answer telephone calls. The position also requires some standing, stooping, and bending. Must be comfortable giving presentations to group Weekend work is required. Some travel is expected. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
