POSITION SUMMARY
This position helps to ensure that each refugee, or other eligible client entering Alaska, has access to a health orientation, health screening, and medical case management, as needed. This position serves as a client advocate and will help arrange health screening and medical appointments for clients and provide transportation, when needed. In addition, this position will help plan, coordinate, and host refugee health fairs, health education classes and wellness groups.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT
Refugee Assistance & Immigration Services (RAIS) provides a bridge for refugees (individuals who have had to flee their countries of origin due to the tragedies of persecution and war) and other new arrivals from their former life experiences to the new skills required for success in the United States. Through a focus on economic self-sufficiency, community integration, and a respect for unique cultures, history and traditions, RAIS creates an environment of compassion and encouragement for refugees to flourish.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with Refugee Health Screenings in Anchorage and when necessary statewide.
Coordinate medical care plans for newly arrived refugees including medical case management activities.
Assist clients with navigation of health insurance and make referrals to the Affordable Care Act when appropriate.
Work closely with clients to assist them in accessing medical services and complying with follow-up treatment plans.
Teach client how to use public transportation to get to medical appointments. Drive clients to medical appointments, as needed.
Coordinate interpreter and translation services. Serve as interpreter or translator or utilize interpreters or translators as appropriate.
Work closely with case staff and/or administrative staff to further knowledge of the medical needs that refugees face daily. This includes coordinating with other agencies serving English Language Learner populations to improve services.
Work with health care providers and other interested parties to ensure that refugees have access to appropriate language services for health care needs as entitled through Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
Plan, connect with partners and host refugee health fairs at least quarterly.
Develop curriculum, teach weekly refugee health classes, and document classes using the online database.
Develop weekly wellness/support groups for refugee clients. Host weekly groups and coordinate transportation as needed to these support groups for vulnerable populations.
Teach Health Orientation to all new arrivals.
Track progress towards grant goals.
Provide case notes for all client interactions in online database.
Gather and report statistics for grants and agency needs as requested by the Program Director.
Other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience working with refugees in a case management or similar role.
A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical demands: Work is performed in a standard indoor office environment. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Frequently sitting or standing at a desk for several hours at a time.
Travel: Frequent travel within Anchorage is required. Occasional travel to Wasilla office.
