Catskill Veterinary Services, PLLC is currently seeking a dedicated and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our Ambulatory Service Team, based out of our Rock Hill, NY location. This role is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about animal care and interested in supporting a progressive and growing mixed-animal veterinary practice in a mobile setting.
Position Overview
The Ambulatory Veterinary Assistant plays a critical role in supporting our veterinarians during farm and house calls. This position requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a variety of responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The candidate must be comfortable working in all types of environments including wind, cold, and rain. The candidate also must be comfortable handling dogs, cats, and domestic farm animals including horses.
Work Schedule
- Four-day work week
- 10-hour shifts (may be extended based on seasonal demands or emergencies)
- Availability for emergent work or call-ins would be appreciated.
Key Responsibilities
Patient and Field Support
- Assist veterinarians with procedures and consultations during farm/house calls
- Safely handle and restrain a variety of species including dogs, cats, horses, and livestock
- Provide respectful support during euthanasia, including transportation and care of remains
Vehicle and Equipment
- Operate an extended cab/bed pickup truck safely (clean driving record required)
- Clean, organize, and maintain the veterinary truck and field equipment
- Ensure regular vehicle maintenance, fueling, and readiness
Clinical and Administrative Duties
- Prepare and dispense medications and vaccinations accurately
- Assist with the collection, organization, and occasional processing of laboratory samples
- Maintain inventory and stock for mobile services
- Accurately enter patient and client information into the EMR system (EZzyVet)
- Utilize Google Suite for communication and documentation
- Respond to client inquiries, schedule appointments, and manage callbacks professionally
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- At least 1 year of animal handling experience preferred
- Valid NYS Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs, kneel for extended periods, and work in all weather conditions
- Willingness to work flexible hours and participate in lateral service within the hospital as needed
- Comfortable working with companion animals and large animals
- Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive feedback
Computer Skills
- Comfortable using cloud-based software systems
- Experience with EZzyVet and Google Suite preferred
