What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Commissioning Technician position at CCL Global?
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Commissioning Technician to join our commissioning team on a large-scale, heavy industrial capital project. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of hands-on commissioning experience in high-voltage systems, substations, motor control centers (MCCs), and complex electrical infrastructure on industrial facilities such as power plants, refineries, chemical plants, or mining operations.
This role is critical in ensuring electrical systems are installed, tested, and commissioned to meet design, safety, and performance requirements prior to handover to operations.
Key Duties:
- Execute and oversee commissioning activities for electrical systems including low, medium, and high voltage equipment.
- Review and interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, loop diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Perform and document functional testing of electrical components such as transformers, switchgear, motors, VFDs, UPS systems, protection relays, and power distribution units.
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and report deficiencies in electrical systems during commissioning phases.
- Interface with engineering, construction, vendors, and client representatives to ensure alignment with project commissioning procedures and safety standards.
- Support startup and energization planning, including system walkdowns, punch list generation, and pre-functional checklists.
- Adhere to and enforce all applicable safety regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and permit-to-work requirements.
- Maintain detailed commissioning records, redline documentation, and contribute to turnover packages and final commissioning reports.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 7 years of electrical commissioning experience on large capital projects in heavy industrial sectors (e.g., oil & gas, energy, mining, manufacturing, utilities).
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and electrical safety best practices.
- Proficiency with test equipment such as insulation resistance testers, multimeters, relay test sets, and circuit analyzers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to system troubleshooting.

Pay: $50.00 - $68.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
