Position Title: Senior Epidemiologist for Sexually Transmitted Disease

Location: Remote

Position End Date: 6/30/2025

Salary: $75,000 to $100,000 plus benefits


Overview


The CDC Foundation is seeking a full-time Senior Epidemiologist. This position will support epidemiology efforts for the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Program at the New Mexico Department of Health. Under general supervision, this epidemiologist plans and conducts epidemiologic investigations and supports public health surveillance activities that are responsive to program and public information needs. The work outputs of this position will describe trends in reportable STD infections including syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia. The focus will be on congenital and early syphilis, to describe disease trends and support programmatic work to eliminate syphilis in the state. 



Minimum Qualifications


•Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field from an accredited program or university with Epidemiology or Biostatistics emphasis.

•Two years of experience analyzing and interpreting infectious disease or similar surveillance data.

•At least five (5) years of relevant work experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field.

•Strong data management, analysis, and visualization skills.

•Experience developing and tracking performance indicators for infectious diseases and grants.

•Experience with data visualization software (e.g., MS Power BI).

•Proficiency in design and implementation of research and epidemiologic studies.

•Experience with Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS).

•Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders with minimal supervision.

•Proficiency managing multiple complex projects concurrently with different timelines and resources to accomplish short- and long-range objectives ahead of schedule. Capable of maintaining meta-data and code repositories enabling other staff to conduct similar projects.

•Strong interpersonal skills required for teamwork and interaction with people across state agencies, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and with external partners.

•Proficiency in SAS, SQL, R and other analytic software.

•Excellent written and oral communications. Proficiency in writing comprehensive statistical and analytical reports. 



Responsibilities:


•Performs advanced level work in epidemiology, biostatistics, database design and management, and data visualization.  Produces written reports, slide decks, and data dashboards.

•Works effectively in teams and with diverse professionals including epidemiologists, program managers, data analysts, physicians, and other health professionals to design, implement, and evaluate disease prevention, investigation, surveillance, and control strategies.

•Implements the presentation of data and information to display trends and probable causes and risk factors for STDs.

•Characterizes findings in collected data and makes recommendations for the implementation of control or prevention measures.

•Plans and provides consultation to implement new or innovative disease surveillance, prevention, and treatment programs.

•Works with database architects and developers for enhancing system performance, automation, and data quality. 

•Conducts data quality management to deduplicate and clean data for analyses and implements methods for addressing missing data.

•Serves as a technical expert for reportable STD and their prevention and control.

•Provides training, technical assistance, and consultative services to program staff and others regarding epidemiology and the control of STD.

•Provides review of technical and non-technical summaries of work, scientific reports and manuscripts as prepared by team members.
