Job Summary:
The Friction Crane Operator is tasked with the safe and efficient operation of friction cranes to handle materials and heavy equipment on construction sites or industrial projects. The operator is responsible for lifting and transporting loads in coordination with the project crew, following all safety standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate friction cranes to lift, move, or position materials as required by project specifications.
- Follow load charts, operating instructions, and safety procedures to ensure precise and safe crane operations.
- Inspect crane components before and after each shift, ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Identify potential mechanical issues and report them to the supervisor or maintenance team for prompt repairs.
- Communicate effectively with riggers, spotters, and site supervisors to coordinate lifts.
- Monitor load conditions and adjust crane controls to maintain safe lifting operations.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubricating the crane and checking fluid levels.
- Adhere to all relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Document crane operations, maintenance, and inspections for record-keeping purposes.
- Assist in loading and unloading the crane from transport vehicles when necessary.
- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, crane operation techniques, and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Valid crane operator certification (NCCCO or equivalent).
- Extensive experience operating friction cranes in a construction or industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of load capacities, charts, and rigging practices.
- Ability to read blueprints, site layouts, and lift plans.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and other safety standards for crane operation.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical dexterity.
- Strong communication skills for working as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating the crane.
- Capable of lifting and carrying heavy materials as needed.
- Able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
- Ability to climb up and down the crane safely.
Work Environment:
Friction Crane Operators work in outdoor settings such as construction sites, industrial facilities, or shipping yards. The job may require working at heights, exposure to various weather conditions, and extended shifts, including weekends and nights.
