Job Description
CEC Controls Co. Inc. is currently recruiting for a Controls Engineer at our Smyrna, TN location. The ideal candidate must be fluent with PLC ladder logic (Rockwell GLx, CLx & PLC5), and have automotive or conveyor or comparable controls experience. Must have proven track record of logic writing, the ability to diagnose problems and make PLC program changes as needed.
Demonstrated troubleshooting skills are absolutely necessary.
This is primarily day shift work, M-F, with occasional weekend work required.
Responsibilities
- Design automation control systems from customer specifications
- Develop electrical drawings
- Responsible for programming automation and control systems involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servos, vision systems, etc.
- Specify electrical equipment and materials including PLCs, automation control components and instrumentation based on calculations, customer specifications and engineering principles
- Quickly troubleshoot hardware and software issues
- Design and debug Data Acquisition systems (SCADA)
- Power-up, debug, and calibration of water/wastewater and/or automotive, manufacturing control systems
- Follow all company processes, check lists, and support the development of standardized design platforms
Skills / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Technical degree or certificate in a controls related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent)
- OR Five years of applicable experience in an industrial environment that includes design, debug, startup, and standby of conveyor controls
- Proficient in programming PLCs (i.e. Rockwell, Siemens, GE/Emerson)
- Proficient in programming HMI/SCADA systems (Factory Talk, Ignition, and Cimplicity)
- Industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 480VAC 3-phase, 120 VAC, 24VDC systems
- Ability to read, revise and create new PLC logic, HMI/SCADA programs, and VFD parameters
- Must be detail oriented, capable of writing and modifying logic in conformance to client standards
- Experience with conveyor systems including: Skid, Skillet, Pallet, Friction Drive, EMS, Power & Free
- Willing to work various shifts and O.T.

- Organized & detail oriented and self-motivated with “Can Do” mindset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel up to 25%
