Overview
The Housing Coach plays a crucial role in assisting individuals and families in securing safe and affordable housing. This position involves working closely with clients to assess their needs, provide guidance on housing options, and facilitate access to various housing programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills, a solid understanding of Fair Housing regulations, and experience in crisis management. Also must live in Monterey, Mariposa, or San Benito County.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to determine clients' housing needs and eligibility for various programs, including Section 8 and LIHTC.
- Provide counseling and support to clients facing housing crises, utilizing skills in addiction counseling when necessary.
- Navigate complex housing regulations and advocate for clients' rights under Fair Housing laws.
- Develop and maintain relationships with landlords, property managers, and community organizations to expand housing opportunities.
- Utilize OneSite or similar property management software for tracking client information and managing housing placements.
- Negotiate lease terms and conditions on behalf of clients to ensure fair agreements.
- Stay informed about local housing market trends, available resources, and changes in relevant laws.
- Facilitate workshops or informational sessions for clients regarding their rights and responsibilities as tenants.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Law, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Strong knowledge of Fair Housing regulations and crisis management techniques.
- Experience with Section 8 housing programs and LIHTC is a plus.
- Proficient in negotiation skills with the ability to advocate effectively for clients.
- Familiarity with property management practices and software such as OneSite is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Must live in Monterey, Mariposa, or San Benito County.
