Overview
The Project Controls Specialist at Cedar and Sage plays a key role in managing project performance by providing expertise in cost control, scheduling, and risk management. The Project Controls Specialist will work closely with the Director of Project Controls, Project Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to maintain effective project tracking and reporting.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project controls, cost management, or scheduling.
- Experience with large-scale or complex projects is preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of project control principles, including cost management, scheduling, and risk management.
- Proficiency in project management and controls software (e.g., Primavera, Microsoft Project).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an office environment with occasional site visits.
- Ability to use a computer for extended periods.
Additional Information:
- Primarily office-based with periodic travel to project sites.

Typical job tasks
1. Cost Control:
- Develop, track, and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial guidelines.
- Monitor and analyze project costs, identifying variances, and implementing corrective actions.
- Prepare and process cost reports, change orders, and invoices.
- Perform quantity take-offs and prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, subcontractor costs, equipment rentals, and various construction phases.
- Prepare bid packages, analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers, and negotiate contracts to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
2. Scheduling and Planning:
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, including critical path activities, task dependencies, and milestones.
- Track project progress and update schedules as required to ensure deadlines are met.
- Identify and resolve scheduling conflicts or delays by implementing effective solutions.
3. Risk Management:
- Facilitate risk management activities, including identifying project risks and developing mitigation strategies.
- Implement project control mechanisms, including change management processes.
- Monitor and report on potential risk factors and their impact on project performance.
- Process change order requests and manage selections throughout the project lifecycle.
4. Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and present cost forecasts, budget reports, and regular status updates on cost, schedule, and risk assessments to stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain accurate project documentation and records, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers and team members to ensure timely reporting of project performance metrics.
5. Quality Control:
- Perform quality control audits to ensure that project outputs meet required standards and stakeholder expectations.
- Ensure adherence to best practices and industry standards for project controls.
6. Process Improvement:
- Assist in the development and implementation of project control processes, tools, and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for improving project controls practices and contribute to process enhancements.
7. Client Communication:
- Communicate project control information to project managers, team members, clients, and stakeholders.
- Facilitate meetings and discussions related to project performance and control matters.
- Collaborate with architects, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain quotes, pricing, and ensure smooth project execution.
