This is a part-time consulting role with an estimated 294 hours per year, averaging 5-6 hours per week.
Hours are flexible but will be based on training schedules, site visits, and consultation needs.
Most work will take place during regular school hours (Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 3 PM) at various school sites across NYC.
Duration: 2 year contract
Requirements:
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience
- A New York State licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist with experience in pediatric vision issues and in training staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work in multiple sites throughout NYC in multi-cultural settings with diverse populations.
Duties:
- Train the entire vision-screening staff of approximately 200 people at the start of each school year and train new employees throughout the year as needed.
- Observe staff performance and provide corrective instruction as needed. The teams work throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
- Regularly review all screening protocols and make recommendations, as needed, for changes in instruments or practice. Incorporate changes into the Vision Program’s Vision Screening Manual.
- Review and interpret E12S forms (eye reports written by the children’s eye doctors). Consult on cases needing an expert opinion.
- Serve as liaison to the community of external eye doctors who examine children with failed vision screenings to clarify orders and field questions and suggestions from doctors.
- Provide expert consultation to Program staff via telephone and e-mail as requested.
- Assist doctors in providing diagnosis, treatment and/or referrals for advanced eye care
- Provide quality assurance reports to program leadership with the evaluation and recommendations for correction with training recommendations, if deemed appropriate.
