Job Title: Construction Project Specialist

Location: Cedar Rapids Community School District

Position Type: Full-time

Reports To: Buildings and Grounds Manager

Salary Range: $68,000 to $74,000

Job Summary:

The Construction Project Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and according to safety standards. This role requires expertise in managing construction schedules, teams, resources, budgets, and client relationships. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills in all aspects of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning & Scheduling:
    • Develop and manage detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
    • Work closely with architects, engineers, and contractors to establish project scope, design, and goals.
    • Ensure timely preparation and approval of project documentation.
  • Team Management:
    • Supervise and coordinate general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
    • Conduct regular site meetings to monitor progress and resolve issues.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and District policies.
  • Budget & Cost Control:
    • Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring projects are completed within financial constraints.
    • Approve expenditures and track project costs, including labor, materials, and equipment.
    • Prepare cost estimates and ensure efficient resource utilization.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure that all construction work meets District standards, quality controls, and legal requirements.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to assess construction quality and progress.
    • Oversee inspections, testing, and certification processes.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
    • Provide regular updates and reports on project status, milestones, and challenges.
    • Address client concerns and adjust project plans as needed to meet their expectations.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify potential risks related to scheduling, budgeting, safety, and construction quality.
    • Develop mitigation plans to manage risks and prevent delays or cost overruns.
  • Compliance & Documentation:
    • Ensure that all permits and inspections are completed on schedule.
    • Maintain accurate records for all project documentation, contracts, and communications.
    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal construction laws.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field or proven experience as a Construction Project Manager for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry regulations.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, Microsoft Project).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Preferred:

  • Understanding of public school finances.
  • Familiarity with local construction laws and regulations.
  • Experience in managing large-scale commercial or residential projects.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and inspect construction sites regularly.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials (may vary based on project).
