Position Overview:
The Legal Assistant, reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel, will support the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel in various legal and administrative tasks supporting a select group of The Dover Company business units. As part of the in-house Legal team, this position plays a key role in ensuring compliance and efficiency in company operations. The Legal Assistant will assist with case preparation, conducting legal research, drafting documents, state department of health licensures, and managing case files. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism will be paramount to the success of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing and submitting applications for state health department and city business licenses. Maintain records and ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Process and manage requests for records, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Coordinate with internal departments to gather necessary documentation.
- Develop and maintain a library of template contracts. Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts to ensure they meet company standards and legal requirements. Lead the organization of our contract management software.
- Provide general administrative support to the legal team, including scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and maintaining legal files.
- Assist with the organization and compilation of discovery materials for outside counsel involved in litigation.
- Conduct legal research on relevant laws and regulations affecting the senior living industry. Summarize findings and assist in preparing reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant, preferably in a healthcare or law firm environment is required.
- Strong understanding of state health department licensing processes is required.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- This position may need to walk or stand for extended periods.
- This position may need to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
- This position may need to move through areas of the corporate office or other worksites of the organization.
- The individual in this position is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by actively preventing accidents, preserving equipment, and promoting safe working practices.
- This role involves actively participating in all staff activities aimed at fostering teamwork, unity, and morale. The individual will contribute as a collaborative team player, working alongside colleagues to create a supportive and cohesive work environment.
- Individuals in this position are required to stay current on all training and ongoing education initiatives. They are expected to actively pursue self-improvement and embrace opportunities for continuous learning to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- This position is required to work onsite at the St. Louis Dover Companies headquarters.
- While travel for this role is not anticipated, there may be situations that arise that require this role to travel to an offsite company location. Anticipated potential travel does not exceed 10% of the annual work of this position.
