Job at a Glance
We are seeking a Construction Manager to support project management initiatives across a diverse real estate portfolio within the JCP&L footprint. Candidates must be local to New Jersey, as the role requires travel throughout the area, though daily office reporting is not necessary. A bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering from an accredited school is required. This opportunity has the potential to convert from contract to hire. A strong project management background is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Support and manage all aspects of the project management life cycle for planning, bidding, awarding, and oversight of capex/construction projects.
- Oversee planning, design, engineering, construction, and closeout of capital and O&M projects in various facility categories including offices, data centers, warehouses, service centers, emergency operating facilities, and dispatch facilities.
- Facilitate and manage capex project activities on behalf of operating companies and business units.
- Develop and review project documentation for clarity and completeness (e.g., programming documents, specifications, plans, contracts, bid packages, requisitions, and engineering work requests).
- Conduct facility assessments and input data into the corporate facility database for planning.
- Develop detailed engineering job packages for electrical, mechanical, HVAC, building envelope, and site work.
- Engage and coordinate stakeholders including architects, engineers, contractors, and internal departments (IT, security, etc.), and monitor contractor resource levels.
- Oversee quality assurance and control on assigned projects, including contractor procedures and quality requirements.
- Identify project requirements, establish performance specifications, and manage construction budgets and schedules.
- Develop and maintain corporate design standards.
- Prepare and present project status reports detailing scope, budget, schedule, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Communicate project goals and decisions to leadership.
- Partner with operating companies from project conception through turnover, securing buy-in on schedules, resources, and plans.
- Ensure completion of project close-out and lessons-learned reviews; participate in project audits to assess outcome success.
- Conduct project analytics and planning for the Administrative Services department.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
- Travel to off-site locations as needed and work outside regular business hours when required.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a project organization with a background in engineering, finance, construction, or project controls.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Required experience in architecture, mechanical, electrical, or structural design of commercial and industrial facilities.
- Must be able to read, interpret, and understand architectural and engineering drawings.
- Project controls experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with project management tools (Primavera, MS Project) and scheduling/resource planning is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and AutoCAD is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment.
