Job Overview :
The Connecticut Department of Corrections is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our healthcare teams across two correctional facilities. This ongoing contract position offers a competitive starting salary of $156,000 annually , with a set schedule of 7 : 00 AM – 3 : 00 PM , Monday through Friday. Facility 1 will require you to work on Mondays and Fridays, while Facility 2 will require your presence on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You will be responsible for providing primary healthcare services, conducting evaluations, diagnosing, and managing treatment plans for incarcerated individuals.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide comprehensive healthcare services to inmates, including diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Conduct physical exams, health screenings, and wellness assessments.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, etc.) to develop treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and treatment regimens, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with medical guidelines.
- Manage the care of inmates with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and other long-term health issues.
- Collaborate with medical staff, including physicians, nurses, and mental health professionals, to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to inmate care.
- Provide emergency medical care and first aid when necessary, stabilizing patients and initiating appropriate care protocols.
- Educate patients on health issues, disease prevention, and self-care techniques to promote wellness and reduce the incidence of chronic illness.
- Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with state and federal regulations and department standards.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, policies, and procedures.
