What are the responsibilities and job description for the MANAGING EDITOR position at Cella?
Location: Washington, Washington, D.C.

Compensation Range: $50 - 56 per hour
We're looking for a skilled Managing Editor to oversee the entire newsletter pipeline-from strategic planning to execution. You'll ensure high journalistic standards while crafting engaging, results-driven content. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of digital consumption trends and know how to tailor stories for a newsletter audience.
Responsibilities:
- Curate and plan newsletter story selection, aligning content with audience interests and business priorities, while overseeing the production of one or more daily editorial newsletters.
- Craft compelling headlines and supporting copy, select and edit images, curate links, and develop interactive elements such as quizzes to enhance storytelling and brand engagement.
- Partner with the marketing team to optimize production workflows and implement strategies that increase subscriber engagement and retention.
- Analyze performance metrics and key indicators to measure the effectiveness of editorial newsletters, sharing insights and strategic recommendations with internal teams.
- Collaborate with various divisions to align newsletters with broader company initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital writing, copy editing, and adherence to AP Style or equivalent standards.
- Proficiency in basic HTML, digital content management systems, and Adobe software.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, especially in digital publishing or newsletter production.
- Experience in a fast-paced editorial environment with a strong grasp of digital best practices, particularly for email platforms.
Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital writing, copy editing, and adherence to AP Style or equivalent standards.
- Proficiency in basic HTML, digital content management systems, and Adobe software.
