Lifeguard

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary duty of a lifeguard is to maintain swimmer safety. Lifeguards monitor water conditions and guest behavior, enforcing safety rules and paying close attention to swimmer activities and behavior. Maintains 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, 

  • Applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary;

  • Ensures that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks; 

• Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; 

• Acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. 

• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services

• Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service

•  Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility

• Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports. 

• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess SAI Lifeguard Certification 

• Must possess certification in Community First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer

• Ability to pass a center prepared water test  

• Ability to work with the public and possess excellent public relation and customer service skills

• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to create effective working relationships with employees and the public

• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

• Team Player who works under direct supervision in a fast-paced environment

• Must be willing to work mornings, mid-day, evening, weekends, and holidays.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

At least 15 years of age

Lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid from an approved agency

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

• Lifeguard W/CPR/AED Professional Rescuer and First

• Bloodborne Pathogens for Professional Rescuer

• Supplemental O2 Administration

All of the above are requirements of employment and are expected to be maintained and current at all times. SCS may reimburse at company discretion.

• Swim Chicago Southland Lifeguard Boot Camp Certification

  • Epi-Pen Administration Supplement Training

  • Asthma & Respiratory Emergency Training

  • Stop The Bleed, Bleeding Control

  • SALT Mass Casualty Triage

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to run, swim, paddle and walk long distances; stand and sit for long periods; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear both in

a person from close and long distances and by phone or radio; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate lifesaving equipment. The employee regularly lifts, pushes or pulls persons or equipment over 100 pounds. The employee must be physically able to perform all rescue skills, including backboard rescue and deep water lift.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee regularly works under outdoor weather conditions, is routinely exposed to the sun, may be exposed to extreme heat or cold; works on uneven and/or slippery surfaces and is periodically exposed to hazardous conditions/situations.

SALARY:  Total rewards package up to $15.00 an hour depending upon experience and qualifications.
