A long standing company in Rock Valley, IA is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will support the Director of Finance with day-to-day tasks and ensure accurate and efficient management of financial records. This role requires excellent time management skills, a strong sense of reliability, and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with accounts payable (AP) tasks, including processing vendor invoices, preparing payments, and reconciling accounts.
- Handle accounts receivable (AR) duties, such as generating invoices, tracking payments, and following up on overdue accounts.
- Support payroll processing, ensuring accurate records, timely submissions, and compliance with payroll laws.
- Prepare and issue invoices to customers and maintain accurate billing records.
- Receives and verifies expense reports; reconciles expense and other financial and bank reports with account balances and other office records.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records and filing systems.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Calculates and reports sales tax based on paid invoices.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with company policies and accounting regulations.
- Provide administrative support to the accounting team as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; Business or Accounting degree preferred.
- Certified Accounts Payable Professional (CAPP) certification preferred.
- 2 years of experience as an Accounting Assistant or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures.
- Experience with payroll systems and processes.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
