The Center for Children and Families is looking to hire a qualified child care director. The director is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the center’s care. The director ensures that the needs of the students and the goals of the center are met appropriately. Key responsibilities include overall operational management, including curriculum development, staff and facilities management, legal and budgetary considerations, community relations and long range planning.

The Center for Children and Families is looking to hire a qualified child care director. The Center Director is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the center’s care. The Center Director is directly accountable for overall operational management, including curriculum development, staff and facilities management, legal and budgetary considerations, and long range planning. The Center Director ensures that the needs of the students and the goals of the center are met appropriately.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Management & Compliance

  • Acquire working knowledge of center, local, and federal policies
  • Develop, update, and adhere to center policies and operating procedures based on state statutes and regulations.
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies; ensure legal and financial compliance and assume responsibility for all necessary reports.
  • Make decisions and handle unexpected problems.

2. Quality Curriculum and Educational Activities

  • Develop a general educational curriculum; with staff, develop positive learning activities
  • Take time to listen and respond to children; help with general childcare as needed.
  • Make accommodations and meet the needs of children of all cultures and abilities.

3. Administration and Financial Management

  • Oversee all office functions including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, tuition billing and payment, human resources, and purchasing.
  • Maintain student and staff records, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Collaborate with the CFCF board on financial matters, including budgeting and expenditures.
  • Approve menus and food purchases.

4. Staff Management and Development

  • Recruit, select, hire, & fire staff with participation from the CFCF Board.
  • Supervise staff and ensure appropriate staff training in compliance with DSS standards and CFCF policies.
  • Complete the annual performance evaluation of all staff.
  • Resolve conflicts (including corrective action when necessary) to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

5. Communication and Community Relations

  • Develop and maintain a warm and welcoming environment for parents, staff, and children.
  • Maintain communications with parents of current and prospective students through direct conversation, newsletters, and parent handbook; implement community outreach activities to maintain and promote positive community relationships.
  • Coordinate appropriate communication with CFCF Board, community persons, public school personnel, staff, and parents.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Meet one of the following credentials: 1. Have a bachelor’s degree in a field of education or human development; 2. Have a two-year degree in early childhood education; 3. Have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential, as determined by the department; 4. Hold certification in a specific child learning philosophy and have at least one year of experience in a child care setting; 5. Have a child development technician diploma; or 6. Have four years of experience in a center or school age program.
  • Have strong oral and written communications skills
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • Have the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and foster a team environment.
  • Have strong finance and budgeting skills.
  • Have excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Hold infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Clear a full background check and tuberculin screening.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
