Position Summary: The Grants Associate reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO) and assists with grant proposals, stewardship of foundations, and preparation of reports and other communications. The role is responsible for a portfolio of annual reapplications of private grants for requests ranging from $500 to $10,000 and supports the Grants Team, which includes the CEO, COO, CPO, and Program Directors. The Grants Associate is responsible for identifying and researching potential new grant opportunities that align with CCS’ mission and current priorities, coordinates with the Grants Team to collect all required items for a proposal and works with the CPO to submit applications on various platforms. Additionally, the Grants Associate will coordinate proposal timelines from start to submission, track and report deadlines and other deliverables, and provide acknowledgment letters after receipt of award. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer with the ability to research and synthesize information from the Grants Team and other resources and has 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and direct experience preparing grant proposals and reports.
Essential Functions:
•Support comprehensive grant prospecting, writing, development and management of submission and post-award reports and acknowledgments.
•Update proposals and report templates and create supplemental such as graphs or charts to illustrate a data point.
•Work from approved templates to write a range of funder correspondence such as acknowledgments or updates/reports on behalf the CEO and CPO.
•Identify and research grant opportunities that support the CCS mission and funding needs and prepare profiles and briefings for the Grants Team monthly.
•Track grant deadlines for annual reapplications and new opportunities approved for application.
•Coordinate with the Executive Assistant on logistics for grant site visits as needed.
•Support Philanthropy Department fundraising events and support communications efforts, with a focus on written content, such as data for appeals, client vignettes, etc.
•Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
Education:
• B.A. in Communications, English/Writing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
• Minimum of two years’ experience in grants writing, research, reports, and project management, or comparable equivalent, preferably at a nonprofit organization.
Preferred Experience:
• Strong persuasive writing and excellent editing skills
• Ability to synthesize information from various sources to create a unified tone in a variety of writing assignments.
• Familiarity with research platforms and databases

Working Environment:
This position is hybrid-work eligible contingent on the operational needs of the department. It may allow for 2 days in person and 3 days remote but may be subject to change based on training and operational needs. This job operates in a professional office environment. Some outreach and off-site activities will be held in other locations, as requested. Must maintain personal cellphone for work-related purposes. Ability to work in a trauma-informed environment, understanding and learning from experiences involving intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Working conditions may include possible exposure to communicable diseases related to those typically found in social services setting.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to carry up to 20lbs.
Travel:
Some travel may be required (up to 15%, mostly within San Diego County). Must have reliable transportation available for work-related purposes, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance.
Work Hours:
The employee must be available during Agency working hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and must work 30 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
