Nonprofit community developer and affordable home builder seeks a highly motivated individual and experienced Grants Associate to join our team. Neighborhood Housing Services of Los Angeles County (NHS) serves as a catalyst for local residents, business and government representatives to work together to build stronger neighborhoods, improve the quality of life for low to moderate income families and revitalize communities into neighborhoods of choice.

GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Grants Associate is responsible for writing, reporting, and monitoring expenditures and compliance for NHS's government, foundation, community, and corporate grants. The Grants Associate will oversee contract grants and communications (both internal and external) related to those grants. This includes bidders' conferences and meetings with prospective and current funders. Salary range is $55,000-75,000. NHS has put in place a COVID-19 Vaccination mandate. All employees must be fully vaccinated as defined by the CDC prior to starting work.

Responsibilities

  • Support Manage, administer, oversee and provide support to the daily operations and delivery of NHS's Grants & Contracts Department.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant Departments (Finance / Contracts / Programs / HR) appropriate policies and procedures as required; updating them annually.
  • Oversee and conduct research and writing of grant proposals to government entities, foundations, corporate, and community funders.
  • Oversee and conduct ongoing research of prospects, including government opportunities, foundations, corporate, and community funders.
  • Manage and fulfill reporting, donor recognition, and other contract requirements as specified by funders.
  • Work with Program Managers to ensure that program activities comply with grant agreements and contracts.
  • Work with NHS's Executive Leadership to gather and organize budget information for institutions and specific programs for use in proposals and reports.
  • Work with NHS's Finance, Contracts, and HR Departments to document and update personnel contract allocations, change of statuses, insurance requirements, and monthly invoicing.
  • Support Finance with tracking expenditures and program outcomes.
  • Provide Program staff with Contract / Award Overviews.
  • Work with program and executive staff to ensure current, accurate, and persuasive articulation of NHS programs and activities; Regularly attend meetings pertinent to this as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with Data and Impact team to produce high quality and achievable program outcomes and tracking metrics that are clearly communicated to staff.
  • Initiate and maintain positive relationships with funders and prospects.
  • Maintain organized electronic and hard copy files; maintain up-to-date calendar / solicitation report of all prospects.
  • Prepare and stay current with income projections for grants.
  • Maintain Grant tracker, and keep most recent contact information, guidelines, and annual reports for foundation and government donors.
  • Assist with creating content for communication materials including annual reports, website, newsletters, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Additional ad-hoc tasks as required.

  • At least two to three years of professional experience, including grants research, writing grants, and grant management.
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the successful development and execution of grant campaigns, fund development, and relationship building.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills, with the experience of managing multiple projects at a time.
  • Experience writing government grants (federal, state, county, and / or city).
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Proven track record in developing a broad spectrum of proactive grants and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office required and Adobe Design Suite experience preferred.
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and system.
