The Opportunity

The Director, Supportive Services holds a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating all aspects of participant supportive services programming at CEO, which includes a focus on mental health, housing and other barriers to success. While participants face many challenges during reentry that this role may address, mental health and housing are critical barriers that often result in significant difficulties in successful engagement at CEO and in maintaining employment. Responsibilities typically include developing strategic plans to improve mental health services and housing solutions, managing internal referrals, managing budgets and resources efficiently, supervising clinical and specialist staff and ensuring their professional development, implementing evidence-based practices, collaborating with other healthcare professionals and community organizations, monitoring quality of care, advocating for mental health awareness and policy changes, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Ultimately, the Director plays a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality supportive services for CEO participants, sustainably and at scale, including mental health care and the resolution of housing issues.

Who We Are

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people recently released from incarceration. Across the United States, 8,000-9,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 30,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996.

Who You Are

  • You have the ability to work as part of a comprehensive mental health team and to represent the org in the community.
  • You have skills in supervising staff of professionals.
  • You have a strong understanding of trauma-informed care and the impacts of incarceration on mental health.
  • You have good organizational skills and administrative abilities.
  • You have a data-oriented mindset with digital documentation competency
  • You have the knowledge of and the ability to adhere to a professional code of ethics.
  • You have the knowledge of and the ability to comply with multiple state's mental health codes.
  • You have at least five years of professional experience in the mental health or human services fields required with at least three years at the supervisory level required.
  • You are a certified consulting/licensed psychologist (PhD), psychiatric nurse (MSN), or clinical social worker (LCSW) preferred.
  • A Masters degree in a mental health discipline preferred
  • You have clinical expertise in crisis intervention, skill in working with individuals with mental health needs, and with individuals undergoing acute episodes of psychiatric distress; skill in diagnosis and assessment.
  • You have familiarity with community support systems, health care and human service resources, court and police activities, etc

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Key responsibilities of the Supportive Services Director include but are not limited to:

Supportive Services Strategy:

  • In collaboration with senior leadership, develops, implements, maintains and evaluates CEO’s supportive services strategy, including procedures, policies, objectives and goal attainment. 
  • Makes programmatic and administrative recommendations to senior leadership and executive team members in accordance with the agency/program goals and objectives
  • Develops quality sustainable supportive service programming that can be scaled and maintained across the organization.
  • Develop and implement systems for measuring the success of mental health support program 
  • Oversees the program's productivity to meet established standards and to ensure continuity of care in the provision of comprehensive services.
  • Develop and lead communication plan with departments (Program Delivery, Strategic Implementation, and Employee Experience) and outside agencies as needed.
  • Collaborate with external healthcare professionals and community organizations to support CEO’s initiatives
  • Recommend, pilot, and support efforts and initiatives designed to support the well-being of participants

Supportive Services Operations:

  • Directs the day-to-day operations and implements programmatic and administrative policies and procedures to attain goals and objectives.
  • Provides coaching and supports for clinical team on handling mental health cases, especially those involving higher intensity and crisis response
  • Oversees quality assurance in service delivery including clinical care and documentation.
  • Serves as an in-house expert resource for CEO offices seeking to address the support services needs of their participants or respond to a specific crisis
  • Develop and oversee implementation of strategy that enables Site Leadership and supportive services staff to reach programmatic goals
  • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Serves on committees, working groups, and other bodies as assigned.
  • Adheres to the code of ethics and complies with state mental health codes.

Team Management:

  • Oversees the responsibilities and projects for multiple clinicians and housing or support services staff supporting regions and/or individual sites.
  • Hires and supervises the service staff, evaluates employee performance, and makes recommendations for human resources actions to senior leadership and executive team members.
  • Partners with teams across CEO to identify gaps and collaborate with teams to share best practices and strengthen the program 
  • Facilitate and lead team meetings as needed

Compensation and Benefits  

The salary range for this position is $104,000-117,000/annually. CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. This position can be located in any of the cities in which CEO operates. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.
