Senior Benefits Administrator

REPORTS TO: Director of Human Resources

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Benefits Administrator position is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, travel and accident plan, flexible spending plan, 401K retirement saving plan, etc.). This position provides excellent customer service and designs quality benefits plans. The administrator continually investigates new benefits programs, improves existing programs, and supervises and monitors benefits administration.

POSITION REQUIRMENTS:

Bachelor Degree in Human Resources or related field with at least 3 to 5 years of employee benefits administration experience. SHRM-CP or CEBS Certifications preferred. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Coordinate daily benefits processing. Handle enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardships and compliance testing.
  • Gather employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billings and the preparation of vouchers for payment of administrative fees for all group plans.
  • Coordinates and administers 401K plan platform. Works closely with retirement vendor with changes, distributions, loans, hardships, death claims, and compliance testing.
  • Administers and oversees annual open enrollment process through online benefit portal. Audits data to ensure accurate enrollment of plans and deductions.
  • Organize and administer Educational Assistance Program to current employees with coordination of application eligibility, completion of course and assist in providing reimbursement in compliance with policy.
  • Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefits package.
  • Collaborates with payroll and ensure that employer contributions and payroll deductions are processed accurately and in a timely manner. Leave of Absences are an example to ensure benefit payment deductions continue during leave.
  • Survey industry trends. Complete benefits surveys and review information obtained from the results. Analyze complex benefits information. Forecast trends and assist with future benefits designs. Develop specific recommendations for review by management.
  • Design and distribute benefit materials for new hire orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions. Communicates and provides education to employees.
  • Maintain employee benefit manual and electronic files and coordinate files with offsite storage facility
  • Monitors and audits monthly invoices for all group plans. Works closely with Finance Department to ensure timely payment.
  • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.
  • Review, collect and organize data for plan audits.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and benefits databases.
  • Project management/leadership skills and experience.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of plan designs.
  • Knowledge of benefits contract language.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.


Education

Preferred
  • Bachelors or better in Human Resource Administration or related field
