JOB TITLE: Family Enrichment Center (FEC) Director  

DEPARTMENT: Family Support 

Exemption: Exempt  

REPORTS TO: Division Director 

SUPERVISES: Community Liaison and 2 Family Advocates  


Center for Family Life (CFL) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn (https://centerforfamilylife.org/), is a nationally recognized social service program. CFL's mission is to promote positive outcomes for children and adults in Sunset Park by providing a comprehensive range of neighborhood-based family and social services. 


The Family Enrichment Center (FEC) is a new program being developed by CFL in 2024, and we are currently recruiting a Director to join our team. The FEC is a warm and welcoming community gathering space located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. It serves as a place where any member of the community can seek support, information, and services. Designed with a home-like atmosphere that mirrors the surrounding community, the FEC provides direct services, activities, and resources aimed at promoting family well-being and empowerment. Through collaboration with FEC staff, families will play a pivotal role in driving the planning, development, and sustainable co-ownership of the center. Families participating in FEC programs will be encouraged to contribute their expertise through co-designing and volunteering opportunities, fostering meaningful engagement with neighbors and peers. The FEC's objective is to enhance families' protective factors while fostering community connections, capacity, and resilience by working with families and local leaders to identify community strengths and develop programs (called "offerings").

I. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to 

  • Build partnerships with stakeholders from multiple sectors, including community members, public officials, and public and private organizations. 
  • Create a culture of teamwork and collaboration among staff, FEC participants, and members of the Advisory Council, that is built on equity, inclusiveness, and non-hierarchical decision-making. 
  • Supervise Community Liaison and 2 Family Advocates. 
  • Facilitate development of an implementation team and Advisory Council. 
  • Provide support for successful implementation of all co-designed and community led activities. 
  • Manage processes for collaborative hiring, training, and coaching of FEC team members. 
  • Maintain consistent communication with ACS FEC Program Management team to discuss progress and ensure that all contractual responsibilities are adhered to. 
  • Support continuous learning activities to ensure model adherence, feedback from community members, and growth towards goals developed collaboratively with ACS, Advisory Council, and community members. 
  • Collaborate with all CFL programs to support integrated model of services. 
  • Allocate resources and track program spending aligned with budget. 
  • Responsible for managing facility related issues. 
  • Ensure all required reporting, tracking and data entry is completed. 

II. QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s degree and five (5) years of professional experience; or 
  • Bachelor’s degree and seven (7) years of professional experience; or  
  • High school diploma and at least eleven (11) years of professional experience. 
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin is required. 
  • Successful professional experience in a leadership position managing community organizing and/or community-driven programs.  
  • Experienced in community engagement, organizing, and building partnerships.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Skills in supervising program staff.  
  • Strong interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills.  
  • Interest in managing and creating positive experiences for groups  
  • Flexibility and the ability to work well as a member of a team. 
  • Knowledge of one or more of the FEC frameworks (equity, co-design, Appreciative Inquiry, Family Protective Factors) or other frameworks/approaches with similar components. 
  • A flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends is required. 

III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS 

  • Build and maintain close, daily interactions with co-workers and supervisors. 
  • Effectively communicate with outside agency staff. 
  • Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change. 
  • Committed to the notion that families and community members possess the strengths and qualities to problem-solve for themselves and their community.  
  • Able to compassionately engage individuals and families with diverse backgrounds and experiences.  

VI. WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Work is primarily in a community-based setting in shared space. 
  • Some time is spent sitting at a desk using a computer. 
  • Attend various meetings with internal and external staff and stakeholders. 
  • Some travel throughout Brooklyn, New York is required. 
  • Fast-paced, high-energy, and highly collaborative environment.

This is a Full-time exempt position at 35 hours per week. SALARY: $70,000
