Job Title: Immigrant Rights Workshop Leader & Advocate
Exemption: Non-Exempt

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Immigrants Rights Workshop Leader and Advocate will coordinate and conduct Immigrant Rights Workshops (IRW) in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA). IRWs provide critical information about the immigration process in the U.S., inform individuals about their legal rights, and support access to legal and social services in New York City. We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team providing comprehensive services to immigrant families, who will provide workshops across the immigrant community in Brooklyn, and ensure our staff have the necessary tools to assist and inform the families we serve. The individual will also assist with our initiative to support Asylum Seekers in the community.
I. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Coordinate and conduct one to two weekly Immigrant Rights Workshops utilizing standardized materials created by MOIA
- Maintain a workshop calendar and attendance data
- Collaborate with CFLSP programs, schools, and community-based organizations to schedule and conduct workshops
- Attend community outreach events
- Develop new partnerships with organizations to reach diverse immigrant communities in Brooklyn
- Assist with CFLSP’s response to the needs of asylum seekers and conduct welcome orientations
- Provide administrative and client-directed support to CFLSP’s Promise NYC Program, which provides childcare subsidies to immigrant families
- Communicate with CFLSP program staff to provide resources and information about the immigration process
- Manage project data and assist with generating reports
- Attend meetings within CFLSP, with MOIA, and external stakeholders
- Assist programs with other duties as assigned
II. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree or high school with relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Bilingual: English/Spanish required
- Experience with teaching or training preferred
- Proficient in data entry and MS Office tools: Word and Excel
- Ability to manage projects and work independently
- Excellent speaking and organizational skills
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities
- Travel required to conduct workshops within CFLSP program sites and Brooklyn
- Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours as needed
III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS
- Build and maintain close, daily interactions with co-workers and supervisors
- Effectively communicate with participants, CFLSP staff, outside agency staff
- Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization
- Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work requires flexibility to conduct workshops in multiple settings throughout Brooklyn
- Work includes being in an office on-site, sitting at a desk, and using a computer and telephone
- Attending to tasks throughout CFLSP’s main three-story site
- Flexibility to work occasional evening or weekend hours for outreach events
V. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Immigrant Rights Workshop Leader and Advocate utilizes organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills to share critical information with immigrants about their rights and access to resources and services, and supports CFLSP’s comprehensive services to immigrant families and the newest New Yorkers.
This is a full-time temporary non-exempt position at 35 hours per week through 6/30/2025. The salary is $23.00 - $24.00 per hour.
