Position Summary:

The Center for Family Services is looking for a Relief Recovery Support Coach. The role of the Recovery Specialist (RS) is to provide non-clinical services intended to aid individuals in establishing and maintaining individual recovery from addiction and mental illness. The RS must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. The RS will help people who have been reversed form an opiate overdose through Narcan to engage in appropriate substance use disorder treatments. The RS will assist consumers in improving their quality of life through connecting them to social, spiritual, and peer supports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage consumers who have a substance use disorder in the Warren County hospitals
  • Respond to request for deployment within 60 minutes from call to hospital entry
  • Gather client information to complete necessary paperwork required
  • Respond to emails within 24 hours of communication
  • Ability to fax, and use appropriate appliances in hospital for the paperwork. Bedside intervention, ability to handle high crisis situation for patients who are in active withdrawal
  • Provide post emergency room telephone contact to the consumer for up to 60 days to help client
  • navigate the early stages of recovery with the Patient Navigator, help clients navigate recovery support systems and access resources including health and wellness, housing, employment, and other professional and non-professional services
  • Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from
  • pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization and sustained recovery maintenance
  • Provide transportation assistance to and from aftercare treatment and support services
  • Assist clients in feeling connected to a Community of Recovery through pro-social, recreational
  • and cultural activities in a sober environment
  • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery,
  • educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self-help groups, professional services, etc) that support the recovering person's goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff and other relevant stakeholders
  • Share personal recovery experiences and demonstrates and models effective coping techniques
  • and self-help strategies
  • Help clients to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing understanding of self,
  • personal problems, and client's part in creating them
  • Support connections to community based, mutual self-help groups. Link individuals to appropriate professional resources when needed. Provide vision-driven hope and encouragement for opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community based activities (e.g. work, school, relationships, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc)
  • Provide clients with ongoing access to education regarding substance abuse, mental health,
  • HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, tobacco, nutrition and exercise and other health and wellness information
  • Educate and support clients in implementing a range of relapse prevention and harm-reduction strategies
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure client needs are met
  • Actively participate in supervision with Supervisor
  • All staff are expected to abide by all Agency Policies and Procedures
  • Recovery Specialists are expected to abide by Program Policies and Procedures
  • Recovery Specialists must abide by Policies and Procedures for "warm handoff" personnel at
  • each off site entity (ie hospital)
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated personal recovery experience
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in the guiding principles of recovery that assist individuals to improve their health, live a self-directed life and reach their full potential.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English desirable
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Knowledge of community/recovery resources
  • Ability to work both as a team member and independently
  • Understanding of relapse prevention and harm reduction techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Crisis management skills
  • Computer skills, minimum Microsoft Word
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to meet the physical and training requirements of the position
  • Ability to commit to 3 shifts per month for On-Call shifts
  • Ability to attend required supervision group meetings twice a month
  • Ability to attend education trainings throughout the year.
