Center for Life Management (CLM) provides the area's most comprehensive array of outpatient mental health services. Our multi-disciplined treatment team provides a variety of evidence-based services and best practices to assist individuals with overcoming severe and persistent mental illness and barriers to independent living. Specifically, CLM's Residential Housing Program offers 24 / 7 supportive housing as an alternative to hospitalization or emergency room boarding during acute psychiatric episodes.
The Residential Counselor encourages housing guests to actively participate in moving toward recovery by providing Intentional Peer Support services. This is a part time, 15 hour per week position and is considered non-exempt in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Schedule is Saturdays and Sundays from 8 : 00 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m.
Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties
- Provide perspective and understanding of guest's experiences including : symptoms of mental illness, effects and side-effects of medications, responses to and opinions of treatment, self and culture-wide stigma and discrimination, and experiences of recovery;
- Be a role model and inspire recovery by instilling hope, building trust, demonstrating empathy, being present, and listening to guest's needs to set personal recovery goals, collaborate on care, answer questions about and foster engagement in treatment;
- Promote responsibility, effective decision making, active participation in treatment and recovery processes, and participation in consumer self-help programs / consumer advocacy organizations;
- Provide peer support activities and one-on-one support in the residence and community-based settings as deemed appropriate for the objectives, interventions and desired outcomes identified in the guest's treatment plan;
- Assess and encourage guests to seek a higher level of care in the event that supportive residential housing becomes insufficient to ensure guest health and safety (to include but not limited to assisting contact with acute care and mobile crisis services or fulfilling a crisis assessment at a local hospital or health care center);
- Utilize a framework of Trauma-Informed Care and actively seek to determine whether the guest has experienced trauma so that effective implementation of support can be applied;
- Link guest and / or natural supports with appropriate community mental health resources that best fit the presenting problems as well as level of motivation and stage of change;
- Maintain contact with guests for a set period of time after a crisis to ensure connection has been made with agreed upon referral sources and additional education / supports are provided beyond the immediate amelioration of the acute episode;
- Provide timely documentation on each service delivered;
- Engage in appropriate consultation meetings and committees, both internally and externally, as determined by supervisor;
- Function professionally and in a manner that protects the integrity, confidentiality and rights of all guests;
- Execute all required services and documentation in accordance with agency policies and federal / state standards;
- Maintain professional memberships, licenses, accreditation, certifications, etc.;
- Follow all SAMHSA Core Competencies of Peer Support;
- Adhere to CLM's Code of Conduct and professional ethics;
- Represent CLM in a professional and appropriate manner in all settings;
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
The work will be performed in a variety of settings including guest residences and community depending on the task, treatment objective, and / or intervention. The ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time is required in addition to climbing stairs and lifting up to 30lbs. Reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and proof of auto insurance coverage is required.
