POSITION: Case Manager – Benefits Specialist

General Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Adult Mental Health or designee, the Benefits Specialist will focus on connecting individuals with community partners, assisting with benefits applications, and ensuring access to appropriate mental health services and resources. This role will collaborate with social service organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners to enhance service accessibility and integration. Primary responsibilities include overseeing case management services, building partnerships with external agencies, assisting individuals in navigating benefits applications, and advocating for clients within the healthcare and social service systems. Additionally, this role will provide services in accordance with individualized treatment plans, ensuring the delivery of case management, skills training/rehabilitation, and crisis intervention. The position requires strong networking, organizational, and educational skills to effectively assist those most in need of advocacy and support. The Benefits Specialist will have frequent in-person interactions, guiding individuals through the benefits application process for programs such as Medicaid, SSI/SSDI, and other support services. This work includes educating clients on available benefits, assisting with application completion, and tracking service outcomes through data collection and reporting to measure program effectiveness.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field is required, along with at least one (1) year of experience in case management or benefits coordination. Experience in community collaboration, public benefits navigation, and client advocacy is preferred. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of public assistance programs. Proficiency in electronic health records and case documentation is necessary. A valid Texas Driver’s License and the ability to travel within the service area are required. The ideal candidate will have experience in community outreach and interagency collaboration, knowledge of state and federal benefits programs and mental health services, strong problem-solving and crisis management skills, and the ability to support clients in navigating complex benefits applications. Experience in staff training and development is also preferred.
