We meet the diverse needs of homeowners by offering free, high-quality housing counseling and services, coordinating a network of service providers across the city, and providing free or low-cost loans for homeownership.
Through its work, the Center supports and expands homeownership across New York by developing programs that focus on underserved communities. We have successfully delivered over $500 million to homeowners in several statewide interventions in response to physical, financial, and health crises, working with both the city and state to expand protections for New Yorkers. By helping homeowners individually and systematically, the Center achieves lasting change. To date, the Center, together with its partners, has helped more than 250,000 low- and moderate-income (LMI) families with a median annual income of $46,000 keep their homes and gain financial stability, preserving over $10 billion in neighborhood property value across New York.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Program Delivery, the Director oversees high-level program operations for the Center’s home repair programs (NYC HomeFix, NYS HCR, Affordable Housing Corporation, and other public and private programs), energy efficiency (NYSERDA Brooklyn-Bronx Energy Hub), and homeowner stabilization programs (NYS Homeowner Protection Program/HOPP, NYC Housing Stability Program/HSP, and other initiatives. This position will initially manage a team of 3-5 direct reports who provide day-to-day oversight for the programs mentioned above.
The Director will work in collaboration with the Vice President, Deputy Directors, Program Delivery and Center team members, and program partners to track and achieve priorities for the Program Delivery team. The Director will lead on Request for Proposal responses, project budget development, project planning (using Asana and other tools), and oversee at a high level and support their direct reports as they focus on specific aspects of the programs, ensuring timely tracking and achievement of deliverables and adherence to budgets for multiple complex programs. The Director and their team will work together to meet regular programmatic targets and ensure New York homeowners continue to be provided with high-quality assistance by the Center and its partners.
This is a full-time, exempt position. This is a hybrid role intended for candidates within commuting distance from our office in New York City.

- Manage a team of direct reports and oversee program operations, advising on reporting requirements, overseeing partner performance and technical assistance, and ensuring the Center’s grantmaking and payment processes run smoothly;
- Maintain consistent communication with program team members and partners, highlighting programmatic issues and partner concerns to the Vice President of Program Delivery as needed;
- Work with the team to manage program progress and ensure quarterly and/or yearly targets are met; troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Seek out funding opportunities, draft responses to requests for proposals (“RFP’s”), plan budgets, and develop achievable targets for proposed programming
- Other duties as reasonably required by Center needs
Skills & Qualifications
- Advanced degree, or 5-10 years experience, in business, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of managerial responsibilities at a nonprofit organization or housing-focused agency;
- Highly organized, results-driven manager with proven ability to deliver complex programs;
- Experience establishing strong relationships with government and nonprofit partners, reporting at a high level, and overseeing multiple complex programs effectively;
- Experience identifying and applying for funding from government, non-profit, and private organizations. Thoughtful, direct, and efficient communicator comfortable speaking in front of internal and external program stakeholders and drafting relevant program documents regularly;
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members, a strong sense of ownership over individual workflow and responsibilities, and a dedication to problem-solving to ensure the continuation of effective affordable housing programs at the Center;
- Fluent with Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Drive) and/or Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and a working knowledge or willingness to learn Salesforce and/or other CRM systems;
- Prioritizes staff development, providing coaching, support, and constructive criticism to help team members reach their full potential;
- Strong personal accountability for the team’s successes and failures;
- Experience working with homeowners directly and/or managing affordable housing or repair/upgrade programs a plus;
- Passionate about promoting equitable, sustainable, and affordable homeownership in New York;
- Deep understanding of and commitment to ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion
