JOB SUMMARY:
Center For Positive Changes (CFPC), is committed to positively impacting one resident at a time. We are seeking a Child Care Worker (CCW) to join our team who has demonstrated high ethical standards and a desire to positively impact the lives of others. Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the CCW is responsible for, but not limited to, ensure that the STRTP facility operates as a strength-based family friendly environment, provide care and supervision to residents in the therapeutic home setting in compliance with CFPC policy and Title 22, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and Community Licensing, and all applicable federal, and local regulations.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/ Experience:
A qualified candidate must possess one (1) or more of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (if hired after January 1, 2017)
Or
- Valid Child Development Teaching Permit, Alcohol Counselor Certificate, and/or Drug Counselor Certificate
Or
- Completed 12-semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education or related field.
Or
- At least 1 year of experience working at STRTP or similar population
Or
- At least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience.
Or
- Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by CFPC.
License or Certification:
- Valid California driver’s license
- CPR and First Aid
Specialized Skills:
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children served in a children’s residential setting.
- Ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions.
- Communicate effectively with the ability to solve problems in a collaborative manner.
- Ability to develop a rapport, interact, and communicate both verbally and in writing with seriously emotionally disturbed children.
- Effective and professional verbal and writing communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively document special incidents.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS REQUIRED:
- Demonstrated knowledge of response to assaultive behavior.
- Demonstrated use of Universal Precautions.
- Adhere to all CDC guidelines in the facility. All employees and residents must wash their hands upon entering the facility. Staff must wear masks while on site and supervising residents and ensure common areas are sanitized throughout their shift.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide quality supervision and guidance to residents assigned to their STRTP.
- Responsible for providing structure, consistency, and safety for each resident.
- Assist staff and residents in the cleanliness, neatness, and general maintenance of the facility and surrounding grounds.
- Knowledge and abidance of agency policies.
- Ensure that residents are unable to exchange clothing or items of personal property without approval
- Participation in staff meetings, workshops, conferences, in-service trainings, and seminars that may be required by all agencies.
- Reinforce all socially acceptable behavior by the residents under their supervision.
- Supervise and assist residents during homework/study time.
- Assist Facility Manager and Shift Supervisor in planning outings and shopping trips to be carried out while on duty.
- Prepare and provide meals for residents and staff in the home.
- Provide direct supervision to residents on their shift and apply the “Reasonable and Prudent Parenting Standards” to decisions involving the participation of a youth in age developmentally appropriate activities in accordance with rules, laws, and policies and procedures.
- Responsible for providing daily record activity every 15 minutes in the logbook.
- Responsible for accurate completion of all logs and paperwork before the end of your shift.
- Responsible for accurate completion of timesheets before and after every shift.
- Maintain reliable and regular attendance.
- Use professional and effective verbal communication, written communication, and problem-solving skills while performing the roles and responsibilities indicated in this job description.
