Description
The Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS) is an acclaimed human services organization and one of the nation's largest providers of housing and social services. CUCS provides integrated programs that link housing, health, and social services for individuals who are homeless, low-income, living with mental illness, or have other special needs in New York City. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for managing their team and providing supervision to its members. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that their supervisees are helping clients to adjust to the shelter or safe haven community; helping their team to function well and meet their contractual obligations, including housing placement; and striving, as appropriate to their role, to fulfill the CUCS programs' core purpose, core values, and vision statements.
The Shift Supervisor is part of the program's management team and is therefore also responsible for helping to ensure that their program provides the best services possible for its clients, is an engaging and rewarding place for staff to work and has a culture which promotes continuous learning and improvement. Twice a week, the Evening Shift Supervisor will attend Management and Staff meetings. The selected candidate must be able to attend occasional training courses that are held during the day. The Shift Supervisor may be assigned additional responsibilities. Depending on the site, the Shift Supervisor is part of the on-call rotation during off hours.

Section 1. Essential Functions include, but are not limited to :
Direct Client ServicesTreat all clients with dignity and respect at all time.
Work collaboratively with clients to ensure their needs are metProvide counseling services, including substance use counseling, to clients in order to promote medical and / or psychiatric stability.Orient, assess and support new intakes in accordance with agency and funder requirements.Conduct necessary assessments (CSSRS) and psychosocial assessments as assigned.Provide services and referrals to meet client needs by coordinating a variety of available services, including but not limited to, nutrition, clothing housing, medical and mental health services, employment, education, recreational activities, volunteering, independent living skills, money management and advocacy.Provide medication monitoring and delivery by assisting clients with self-administration of medication while following agency policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.Provide effective crisis intervention services using a person-centered approach and engaging supports as necessary. Coordinate with emergency services, visit clients in the hospital, and conduct discharge planning and follow-up in and address factors that may lead to a crisis.Engage and coordinate care with external service providers, collateral providers, and social supports (including family members) as appropriate.Provide ancillary services such as outreach, intake, escort, and / or recreational activities to clients.Adhere to agency policies regarding confidential information and protect the privacy of clients.Other projects and duties, as assigned by program management.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesProvide oversight and management of the assigned shift to ensure the safety of the building, accountability of all clients, and the fulfillment of their needs in a safe and trauma-informed manner.
Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, and supervising assigned staff to maintain high performance and adherence to agency standards.Conduct regular weekly supervision sessions to support staff development, address concerns, and ensure effective team functioning.Provide on-call support during off hours as assigned.Perform introductory and annual performance evaluations for employees, providing constructive feedback and setting clear performance goals.Ensure thorough completion and documentation of all assigned shift tasks in compliance with agency policies and procedures.Assist in coordinating and maintaining adequate shift coverage, collaborating with team members to handle staffing gaps effectively.Work closely with the Per Diem team and their supervisor to arrange sufficient coverage for all supervised shifts, proactively managing planned and unplanned staff absencesEffectively communicate with funders and collaterals to support program goals and client needs.Ensure hourly safety monitoring tours are conducted by onsite security and that CUCS staff are conducting tours of the building every 2 hours or as assigned by program management.Wellness and Daily LivingAssist clients with activities of daily living, including hands-on assistance in the client's personal space as needed.
Promote independence by encouraging and assisting clients with self-care tasks, whenever possibleAccompany client to various locations for appointments when needed during assigned shift.GroupworkProvide services to groups as assigned, including but not limited to Evening Community Meeting, ADL Groups, and other groups.
Service and Contact DocumentationInput client services information into relevant databases and maintain databases, in accordance with agency and funder policies and procedures.
Complete progress notes and all other service documentation in a timely manner according to agency policy and funder requirements.Maintain service documentation that is accurate, relevant, complete, and reflective of quality service.Consistently adhere to agency standards, funder requirements, and management directives for service provision and contact documentation.Report the program's census to the Department of Homeless Services.Section 2. Contribute to a program culture that is client-centered, mission-oriented, and dedicated to quality service provision.Provide leadership and support within the program to effectively and efficiently deliver direct services as part of a team, and function as a resource to other team members.Assist site-based resource development on clinical and programmatic issues and utilize specific areas of expertise to enhance team functioning and program development.Proactively analyze situations and determine proper course of action by utilizing sound judgment to make decisions.Attend and actively participate in team meetings, trainings, program activities, and workshops, as required or as assigned by program management.Demonstrate a clear understanding of the supervisory chain of command by escalating issues when necessary and engaging with program management to collaboratively identify effective solutions.Demonstrate adept conflict management skills by efficiently addressing and resolving disagreements within the program to foster a positive and collaborative work environment.Maintain composure and productivity under pressure.Understand and adhere to agency policies, procedures, and practices as well as contractual mandates.Schedule ManagementReport to work at the start of scheduled shift and remain through the end of shift.
Schedule meal breaks in consultation with supervisory staff to ensure coverage.Maintain flexibility and consider program needs.Complete assignments within established time frames, in accordance with agency policies and procedures as well as management's directives.Adhere to agency policies and procedures related to time and attendance.Requirements
Minimum Requirement : HS required and 8 years of experience in mental health or similar population required or BA and 4 years of experience in mental health or similar population required.Demonstrated ability to provide services to clients with psychiatric and medical disabilities and with issues of substance abuse.Computer literacy, excellent writing and verbal communication skills are required.Bilingual English / Spanish preferred, but not requiredAbility to work effectively as part of a teamPhysical Demands
