Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care in an ophthalmology setting. This position involves working closely with patients to perform various diagnostic tests, assist with examinations, and ensure accurate medical records are maintained. A strong understanding of optical systems and medical terminology is essential for success in this role.
Duties
- Perform preliminary eye exams, including visual acuity tests and tonometry.
- Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures, ensuring a smooth workflow.
- Maintain and operate ophthalmic equipment, ensuring all tools are functioning correctly.
- Collect and document patient medical histories and current medications accurately.
- Educate patients on pre-operative and post-operative care instructions.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations while handling patient information.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the examination rooms and equipment.
- Support pediatric patients by providing a comforting environment during their visits.
Requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to ophthalmology is preferred.
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment during procedures.
- Experience with medical records management and coding is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of physiology related to the eye and vision systems.
- Excellent patient care skills, demonstrating empathy and professionalism at all times.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team while maintaining individual accountability.
- Previous experience in an ophthalmic or optical setting is a plus but not mandatory.
